How to Convince a Spouse to Save a Marriage
Millions of people around the World have marital problems, many of which are trying to make their marriage work. Some spouses have problems convincing their other half to commit to saving their marriage. If you are serious about making your marriage work there are a few things you can do, which many have found to help convince their spouse that their marriage is worth saving.
One of the most important steps to take is to pray if you are a person of faith. Not only should you pray, but it would be great if you could get others who are of faith to also pray for you and your spouse. Pray for you and your husband or wife to reconcile and ask God to show you how to be the person your spouse wants.
Another important step to take when trying to save your marriage is to take good care of yourself. Don't neglect yourself just because you are depressed. It is important to look and feel your best. Make sure to get an appropriate amount of sleep at night and take care of your daily responsibilities. If there are issues that you know you are struggling with, make sure to address these daily.
Ask your spouse to attend counseling. If he or she says no, do not cling or beg, just except the no and move on. Hopefully your spouse will eventually see that you are strong and will want to attend with you. Do not show vulnerability by begging. Do not tell your spouse that counseling will "fix" him or her; this will make him or her feel defensive.
Be willing to accept the wrong things that you do and try to work on those areas. Do not constantly blame your spouse for their downfalls. It is important to talk to your spouse about your feelings. When you are talking to him or her be sure that you're not blaming him or her for your bad feelings.
Explain why you feel the way you do and use "I" statements, not "you" statements. That means don't say "you caused me to feel hurt", try to say "I felt hurt". If it is meant to work, eventually your spouse will come around.
