Indiana Marriage License Requirements
Do you want to get married in the Hoosier state? Do you know what it takes to obtain a marriage license? Well do not worry because below I have outlined the laws and regulations for applying and obtaining a marriage license in the state of Indiana.
You will need to bring a valid picture identification card such as your drivers license, state ID card and we suggest that you bring your birth certificate as well.
The couple must appear in person together when applying for your marriage license.
If you reside in Indiana you must apply in the county that you reside in.
Their are no waiting periods.
If you are divorced or widowed you will need to know the exact date that the marriage ended. We suggest that you also bring a copy of your divorce decree.
The fees for Indiana residents are $18.00 if you do not reside in Indiana you must pay $60.00 and no checks are accepted.
A certified copy of your birth certificate is required. If you are 17 years old you must apply for the license with both parents or your legal guardian.
If you are 16 or 15 years old, you must petition the Circuit Court via a "Permission to Marry" form. The cost for this form is $120.00 even if you are denied marriage.
Their are no proxy marriages.
Cousins can marry as long as both are 65 years or older.
Their are no common law marriages.
Marriages may be performed by a member of the clergy.
The marriage license is valid for sixty days only and must be used in the state of Indiana.
