Alabama Marriage License Requirements
If you are soon to be married in Alabama then you need to read this article. Below I have listed the requirements to receive a marriage license in the state of Alabama. These requirements are always subject to change so you should still seek legal advice.
You must have a valid drivers license, birth certificate and a social security card.
You do not have to live in the state of Alabama to receive your license.
There are no waiting periods.
If you are divorced within 6 months of the wedding date you must have a copy of your divorce decree.
You must purchase your license with cash only. Fees vary by county any where from $28.00 to over $40.00.
No blood tests are required in the state of Alabama.
If you are under the age of 18 then you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate, both parents must be present with identification, or if you have a legal guardian they must be present with a court order and identification. If one or both parents are deceased, proper evidence of such must be provided.
Any licensed minister of the gospel in regular communion with the Christian church or society of which he is a member may perform marriages. Also, marriages may be performed by the pastor of any religious society according to the rules of the religious society. Ministers must provide a certificate of the marriage to the judge of probate within one month after the marriage.
When you purchase your license it is only valid for 30 days and you must use the license in the state of Alabama only.
