You are soon to be married and you reside in the state of California. So obviously you will need a marriage license. So below I have listed the laws and regulations that will help applying and receiving your marriage license a breeze.
We suggest that you call your local county or city clerk and make an appointment. If you do not make an appointment you might find your self standing in line for hours.
You will need to bring picture identification and copies of your birth certificates.
Both the bride and groom will need to be present when applying for marriage license.
You do not have to reside in the state of California to receive a marriage license.
Their are no waiting periods to receive your license.
If you are divorced or widowed you will need to bring proof that you have been widowed and or a divorce decree.
The fees for the marriage license is $40.00 and most counties will only take cash.
You do not have to take any blood tests before receiving the marriage license.
There are no proxy marriages.
California does allow cousin marriages.
There are no common law marriages.
Their are no same sex marriages but Domestic Partnership Certificates are available in San Francisco.
Any priest, minister, or rabbi of any religious denomination, of the age of 18 years or over may perform marriages. Ministers must complete the marriage license and return it to the county clerk within 4 days after the marriage.
The license is only valid in the state of California only and for 90 days.
