Internet Friend Finding - Talk About Ironic!

Sure are a lot of people internet friend finding these days... whew! Remember just a few years ago when finding someone from the past meant digging through the attic or the garage to find the old yearbook or the very first address book you ever kept? The one with the "Best Address Book" written on it? Remember the hassle of all those calls that were made to people who 'might' have been the right Bill Ryan? The calls to all the people who could have been "Dorothy Miller? " All those attempts to call "Rachel Meyers" in Florida that went absolutely no where... except larger phone bills? Those days are gone.

Okay, Where Are My Old Friends? They Were Here a Second Ago!

Okay, already, where are my old friends? No seriously. Seems like just a minute or two ago, I was playing tennis with that old wooden racket with Emil from Brooklyn. And it doesn't seem life a lifetime ago that I was playing piano recitals with that girl from Harrison, NY. (The one that always beat me. Grrr.) And whoa, it REALLY doesn't seem that long ago that Scott from Milwaukee taught me how to row in the practice boats so that I could (and did) make the crew team in college. These are some of the amazing people that came into my life and who now have me asking myself "where are my old friends?

I Wanted to Find My Old Friends, Not Reinvent the Wheel!

I wanted to find my old friends from high school not too long ago. And I thought it was going to be a piece of cake. Boy was I in for it. My quest to find my old friends started the way you'd expect it to. I headed right over to Google. After entering the keyword about finding old friends, I was presented with no less than about 8 or nine pages of Google Ads suggestion that theirs was the only site that I would ever need on my journey to find my old friends. Little did I know that the more hype those site exuded, the more Flash banners, and "yelling" they were doing to get me to notice their sites, the less and less the quality of the results they were able to offer.

Lately, I ve Been Online Friend Finding, and Lovin It!

I've been online friend finding a lot lately. And how it all started, probably how it starts for most people, was out of a very human need to reconnect. Now I can't get enough of it. I was clearing some spring stuff our for some summer stuff to go in its place (light sweaters-out, swim suits-in) and I ran across my old yearbook from college. I attended a small college up in Worcester, MA and the bonds that were forged there were forever. But then life crept in. Families were started. Kids arrived. And suddenly all of the people from those glorious four years were suddenly (or not so suddenly) NOT in my day to day existence any longer.

Willing Women Do Sister Act

A single sister act of kindness, reaching out to sisters, mothers, daughters and friends. In my case, my friend was sick with breast cancer. What do you do to support? Do you whip up your favourite chicken casserole recipe, or is the no bake cookies recipe more your thing? I can relate to that! My cooking skills aren't great, so I knitted scarves instead. My knitting isn't much better than my cooking! I knitted for many months, which is saying something! Considering I'm not a knitter, to keep my stitches on the needles, and sides of my scarves straight, was no easy task! I donated my scarves to women suffering with breast cancer.

Find Someone Easily, Life s Hard Enough

Want to find someone easily? Looking to confine your efforts to the net? Great. I just have to put all this into context FOR ME first though. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. All Italians, Irish and Jewish neighbors. One huge melting pot per block. And when our moms or dads (usually moms) wanted to find someone easily they literally did open the window and start screaming out our names! Naturally, those days are long gone. And with the net taking over as the primary source of finding anything AND anyone, the windows in Brooklyn are now for the cross breezes. Not for screaming, sadly. Now people are flocking to find people easily by bringing with them the name they are looking for and the state that they think that person might be residing in.
