Biggest Curling in England Tournament 2008
The biggest tournament for curling in England for the 2008/09 season takes place on October 25th/26th 2008, at Fenton's rink in Kent.
The English Masters is sponsored by Glenfarclas Whisky, and as well as providing bottles of their malt as prizes, the teams are playing for the Glenfarclas Still trophy in addition to the title.
With the mens and womens tournaments being taken to Scotland this season by the English Curling Association, the English Masters is the biggest tournament in England this year, effectively making it the biggest tournament for actual curling in England.
Although they have been held at Fenton's rink in Kent before, taking the mens and womens national tournaments to Scotland means that the players in the north of England don't have to travel down to kent every year.
The event is open to teams of any 4 curlers, men or women, seniors or juniors, delivery cue players or not, which means it's an all encompassing event, and seeing as the other events are Scottish bound this season, it really does leave the Glenfarclas Masters as the premier event to win in England.
There are a confirmed number of 6 teams entered, with space for up to 12 teams.
With ice booked for the event, players are now gearing themselves and getting some practice to get ready to claim the title of English Masters 2008.
So far the teams have a full range of players across the spectrum.
There is a team of senior players, all over 50, and there is a team of juniors all under 19.
There are also some local club teams, with players of three years or less experience teaming up with curlers who have been playing 20 years plus.
It will be interesting to see which team walks off with the title.
