Choose A Golf Bag

The golf bag is a very important part of your golfing kit. Choosing the right golf bag should be undertaken with some thought as to the job it's going to have to do. Are you the kind of golfer who only plays occasionally or do you play come rain come shine every week? Do you like to carry an array of wet weather gear, drinks and snacks or are you so confident that an extra ball seems an extravagance?

Things to consider when choosing a golf bag.

Type of golf bag- Bags come in a variety of styles e.g.

Cart bag- This bag is designed to go onto a cart surprisingly enough so it tends to have only a single strap and is of a larger size and weight. The advantage is it allows for more pockets for drinks, snacks and clothing.

Carry bag- The most common type of bag, generally well equipped with pockets and stowage space. The better ones come with a dual strap which makes it easier to carry and much better for your back.

Sunday bag- The Sunday bag, aka, the skinny or pencil bag is a small version that is lighter and more easily stuck in the trunk for those quick nine holes. They don't offer the same protection for your clubs as they usually have just the one compartment.

Tour bag- One for the professionals with gallons of storage space. The drawback is you have to carry all that extra weight. Okay if you have a caddy on the payroll.

Stand bag- This is basically a carry bag with sprung legs that allows it to be stood upright thus making club selection easier. Some stand bags have a locking mechanism for the legs to enable it to be placed on a cart for those tired days. Recommended type of all purpose bags. It's what I use.

Other things to look for are a putter well, putters are increasingly sophisticated and therefore expensive so they need careful storage, club separators to protect the shafts and a waterproof pocket for the cell phone etc. A rain cover should pretty much come as standard.

After all that comes the look, color and feel of it. After all you want a pretty one don't you?
