Prepare Early For the End of the Season Celebration

It is never too early to plan for the year end party for your youth football team. The Team Mom should be able to help you make the arrangements. I have had parties that have been as simple as a pizza party and as formal as a banquet. It is best to get a read on the team (especially the parents) before you decide how fancy the party will be. The age of the team will also help in your decision. The one main tip I can give you is to make sure the Team Mom collects the entire amount of money that the party will cost in advance of the event. Make sure all siblings, parents, grandparents and friends are accounted and paid for.

Coaching Youth Football - Making it Fun

This could easily be the first and last paragraph of this article. While coaching youth football you better make it fun for the players and coaches involved. The parents will fall in line if they see that their kids are having fun. Please remember most of these kids will not go on to play high school sports. It is very important that you give them a memorable experience while you're coaching them. I have seen way too many coaches have the military approach, which we strongly disagree with for youth football. There's a big difference between running a strict disciplined team versus a military operation.

Reliving Family Memories Through Chicago Bears Season Tickets

We all have our favorite NFL teams which we eat breathe and sleep during football season. For my family, our team was the Bears. To us, there were no other sports teams. We planned our holidays and our vacations around the Chicago Bears football schedule. My dad even spent long cold nights waiting in line for Chicago Bears football tickets. Like I said, my family were die hard Bears fans. My family is no different than any other Bears fan when it comes to Bears season tickets. The loyalty of Bears fan is evident in the support they provide their team during each and every game on the Chicago Bears football schedule.

Why Brett Favre Can Lead The Vikings To The Super Bowl

Brett Favre is a proven winner and leader at the quarterback position, his statistics and 17 years in the NFL speaks for itself. The season he had last year for the New York Jets proves he can still perform at a high level. The team Brett Favre wants to play for this year is the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings was good enough to make the playoffs last year despite not having a great quarterback. If the Vikings add Brett Favre to the team, it would make them one of the top teams in the NFL. Brett Favre is a three time Associated Press MVP (1995-97). He is a sure hall of famer and his numbers thru the years proves it.

A Fallen Titan

Steve McNair's untimely death has struck the hearts of Tennessean's and football fans all over. Toughness. It's a quality that is not only wanted, but is of the utmost importance in the National Football League. Not many players had more of it than Steve McNair. He played with terrible knees, worn out legs, and even a ruptured sternum. Titans fans became spoiled being able to have a quarterback with such a high tolerance for pain. He was the Superman of the Tennessee Titans franchise. Living in Tennessee for the past nine years, I have seen and read quite a bit about McNair, from his play on Sunday's to some off his off the field run ins with the law(mainly D.

Youth Football - Is Face Tackling Legal in Youth Football?

Had a question come to me via e-mail this week from a first year youth coach: Is face tackling legal in youth football? The current NFHS Rule book defines Face Tackling under NFHS 2-20-1.b (Illegal Helmet Contact) as, "Face Tackling is an act by a defensive player who initiates contact with a ball carrier with the front of his helmet". This is a 15 yard penalty and was put in the rule books over 20 years ago. Unfortunately many coaches that are coaching youth football haven't played for over 20 years and don't know that not only is this illegal, it can be dangerous. Leading with the head or face inherently puts undue pressure on the head and neck.

Basic Training Tips For Youth Football

Football is a game of intensity and team work. Basic training is aimed at getting young trainers acquainted with the sport. Understanding the game is the first step of the training which is followed by strength, agility and various other forms of training sessions. The basic training will mainly focus on the aspects of defense and the offense. The training for the offense will be different from the defense. Offense will be mainly focused on possession and scoring while the defense will be focused on stopping the charge from the opposite team. Kids will be trained in the basics of football right from holding the ball, throwing to all other aspects which make a complete football player.

Youth Football Tips - Quarterback Training and Workout

Football training for quarterbacks is getting complex. Reading the defense is a very important trait which should be possessed by any quarterback. Understanding the tactics of the defense is a constant job of the quarterbacks and is taught in the training process. Especially young players should know all about how to run through the defense and score during matches. Quarterbacks are the pillars of any attack and they should lead the attack of any team. The quarterback training will mainly focus on different attacking techniques, throwing abilities, and other methods. The training will focus on devising different strategies which will split open the defense and you can lead your charge.

Youth Football - Common First Year Coaching Errors

A Mistake the First Year Assistant Coach Usually Makes Many dads starting out coaching youth football for the first time make the same blunder, they try to "connect" with the kids by trying to look like them, talk like them or be their best buddy. In most cases the coaches intentions are noble and good, the rookie coach wants to be able to effectively coach and for his players to have fun. But in other cases, the coach is just trying to be popular and be well liked by his players. What The Experts Say The biggest High School Football coaches forum in the US asked its members what is the number one mistake rookie assistant coaches make and by a HUGE margin the number one answer was: Coaches trying to be their players "best friend".

Engineering a Last Place to First Place Miracle in Youth Football

Engineering a Complete Overhaul in Youth Football This past weekend I was a speaker at the Pop Warner Treasure Coast coaches clinic held in the West Palm Beach, Florida area. Also speaking was Bill Powers, head football coach at Jupiter Christian High School. Bills teams have won back-to-back State Championships and are on a 28 game winning streak. The amazing thing about this story is Jupiter Christian prior to Bills arrival had never had a winning season. In fact the 2 years prior to Bills arrival the team went 2-17 and were outscored by over 600 combined points. The previous head coach resigned, declaring the football program "dead" and suggested it be discontinued.
