How Long Should It Take To Play the Learn To Be Rich Game?
I just received an e-mail from one of the Learn To Be Rich investment game players asking me a few questions. One of the questions that he asked was how long should it take to play the Learn To Be Rich game.
So, I figured I would take a few minutes and share with you how long I think it should take to play and how long it does take.
First, an overview. The game is set up so that each turn is set up to be about a week or real time. So, with a click of the mouse... whoosh... a week has passed.
Each week you can choose ONE action to do in the game. The actions include things like building a better dream team or looking at stocks to buy or houses for sale or small businesses to start.
For example, you could choose to "Find a Better Real Estate Agent" and you will spend a turn by clicking on that option. Once you click on it the game will improve your Real Estate Agent's rating and you will get certain in-game benefits to having a better Real Estate Agent like you are able to see more and therefore better real estate deals, your offers to buy are accepted more often (especially lower than full asking price offers), your houses get sold quicker with better agents and so on.
So, to complete a very simple turn, can take about 10 seconds.
However, as you decide to buy things like real estate, businesses, stocks in the game, there are things related to those items that pop up... tenants moving in and out, repairs on houses, expenses for a business rising and falling and so on. These items do not take up turns to complete, but can happen at any time each turn.
In the game, we assume that the game lasts 2,444 turns, which, if you do the math at 52 weeks per year is 47 years of game time.
If you just estimate each turn is about 10 seconds long, a full game, start to finish would take a whopping 6.79 hours!
Now, two things. First, I think my estimate of 10 seconds per turn is high. Second, you don't have to do it all in one sitting and you don't have to play a complete game to get the full benefit of what you can learn from the game.
So, why not take a moment to log in and try the game for yourself. I think you'll learn a lot from playing.
Until my next post,
James
