Response in Atlanta Shows Improvement in Natural Disaster Response
Recently the southern part of the United States was hit by another natural disaster. Prolonged rain soaked the Atlanta area causing flooding. Although not nearly as widespread as the flooding that Hurricane Katrina subjected the New Orleans area to, the floods that rolled through Atlanta caused a lot of evacuations. This time around people seemed to take the flooding in stride. The reaction by government agencies was better coordinated and overall more helpful for the people hit by the floods in Georgia. No, people were not treated as lavishly as the guests staying at a Caribbean all inclusive resort, but they were treated well.
Danger in the Pacific - The Samoa Tsunami
With the help of my colleague, Alex Molina, I recently wrote about the realistic danger that tsunamis posed to the west coast of the United States. I had vastly underestimated the damage a tsunami can do, and the last two days, after reading about the 8.3 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that followed, I also got to watch the Pacific Ocean's tsunami warning system in action. In the case of Samoa, American Samoa, and Tonga, the earthquake's epicenter and aftershocks were in some cases less than 100 miles from the coastlines. This meant that the early warning system had little time to warn anyone.

Well there can be no doubt that the real estate community has taken a pounding from the turn of events surrounding the bubble burst of the subprime lending fallout. The economics of reality is a monumental barrier to over come. Luckily, most real estate agents, consultants and professionals are tough as nails and they are facing these challenges head on. The weather experienced around the world takes on many different shapes, strengths and forms. Lots of factors influence our daily weather, weather is always changing and it affects everyone"s day to day lives. Most people would tell you that their ideal weather would be sunny and warm, but what if that were to happen every single day of the year? Think of the drought that would follow from the lack of rain, grass and crops would die, the air would be dusty. Weather influences everything from the type of clothes and shoes we wear to the plans we make for the weekend. Weather is influenced by lots of conditions in the atmosphere including heat energy, moisture, winds, and the air pressure.

What is lightning? Lightning is a large charge of electricity that can reach from clouds to the ground or to other clouds. Lightning is strong enough to start fires a cause serious damage to trees and building stricture, but lightning is also beneficial to plant life by putting nitrogen in the ground. The action of rising and descending air within a thunderstorm separates positive and negative charges. Water and ice particles also affect the distribution of the electrical charge; lightning forms from the buildup and discharge of energy between these charge areas.
