Exodus 19:15 has had a significant affect on Jewish women"s participation in ritual practices. This text describes the central event in Jewish history when the Jewish people were preparing to receive the covenant. However, as the people were readying to receive the covenant, Moses speaks to Hebrew nation as all male. The fact that Moses addressed the community only as men gives the implicit message that the covenant is only between God and man. As women are excluded at this time, the message is given that whatever is transpiring at that time is not for them. Moses discriminates because he does not say male and female stay away from one another.

The Qu"ran is the chief and most holy book of the Islam faith.The Qu"ran is filled with revelations from God which were supposedly given to the Muslim prophet Muhammad. During the revelations, Muhammad would say aloud revelation and his scribes would write down the words or memorize them. For many years the Qu"ran was passed down orally but twenty years after Muhammad"s death the separate parts were brought together to form the complete collection into the Qu"ran. The Qu"ran is filled with messages of encouragement, parables and stories which are written partly in prose and verse. These revelations tell the world of the one God, his teachings and impending judgment which will take place at the end of time.

One way that Native groups have attempted to renew and retain their traditions have been through ceremonies. In the past, ceremonies have been an important part of Native American tradition and in the twentieth century the natives have tried to revive these ritualistic actions. An example of some of these new ceremonies can be found in the Native American church. Native American church members spend whole Saturday nights in special ritual action. Led by a "roadman" the members smoke cigarettes which are rolled inside of corn husks. The group also ingests a portion of the peyote plant which gives individuals the feeling of being "high" or filled with inspiration.

Wicca can be considered an old religion because its roots are in the past. During medieval times there was a form of Wicca in Europe. However, the Christian church attacked any shadow of witchcraft activity. The church had classified all forms of witchcraft as pagan and they perceived paganism as a counter effort to their work as Christians. Examples are the witch hunts in Salem, and the Spanish inquisition. Witchcraft suffered a lot of persecution which caused the movement to go underground for centuries. In the twentieth century witchcraft began to arise again as many scholars began to study its historical tradition.

One of the most important ritual actions of the Passover festival is the Seder which takes place on the first night of the seven day. The Seder is a meal that Jewish families partake of in remembrance of the Exodus. Before the reforms of King Josiah in 620. B.C.E the Passover feast was not all one meal. However, the holiday and eating of the sacrificial lamb took place inside of individual homes as partakers spread blood over their door posts before eating the meal. "For I know the plans I have for you, " declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. " -Jeremiah 29:11 I recently presented my "Are You Ready to Start Living Your Dreams? " workshop for a group of women. At the end of the session, a workshop participant came up to speak with me. She shared that God had placed it on her heart to start a ministry for single moms but she just couldn"t move forward. I listened for a few minutes as she laid out her vision for her ministry - its name, mission, where it would be located and other strategic matters.

Pope Benedict"s quotation of the Byzantine emperor Paleologus caused a rift in communication between Catholic and Muslim religious groups. During a speech at the University of Regensburg the pontiff quoted a 14 century Byzantine emperor who made offensive remarks towards the Muslim Prophet Muhammad claming he brought "violence" and "evil". The words of the pontiff have caused a great backlash from the Muslim community on a whole. Many Muslims have burned effigies of the pope Benedict, have protested against the pope and have had harsh words for the pontiff. Many Muslims leaders have criticized his remarks including groups from Pakistan and Britain.

What About Those Who Have Never Heard?

"You can"t say that God won"t let unsaved people into heaven, " my unsaved friends have replied over and over as I have spoken to them about Jesus. Sometimes even Christians face that question as we reflect upon our belief. It is not until we consult the Scriptures, that we are able to answer and effectively teach others why. Now, back to the question; what about those who have never heard? First, let's study about those who have heard, but refuse to believe. A great place to begin is with God"s chosen people. Some of my unsaved friends have retorted, "surely the Jews will get into heaven.
