Federal Government Paperwork and Global Warming; Hypocrisy

We often hear the about the problems concerning global warming and how it will change our earth and our lives forever and how the water will rise 20 feet and submerge our cities along the coast. There is a lot of talk about global warming and yet all this political debate seems to be hypocritical. This is because the federal government even though it put forth the Government Paper Reduction Act, it is still causing the cutting down of hundreds of thousands of trees per year, almost as many as the New York Times in fact. If the government is really truly concerned about global warming then they need to go virtual with all their forms and paperwork with new eGovernment Online Initiatives.

Doing Nothing Might Sometimes be the Responsible Thing To Do!

Often we find infighting between the Liberals and the Conservatives and everyone picks sides and then they start in with all the sound and fury creating controversy and chaos in the mass media. The hysteria gets out of hand and a shouting match begins. Is all this really necessary? Sometimes the things that we fight over are incidental or really unimportant. In my opinion, we need to stop fighting straw men and sit back from the situation, because doing nothing at all about a situation sometimes might be the more responsible thing to do and be the fairest for all concerned. Take Global Warming for instance;

A Comment Of Truth

Mr. Secretary Gates, It is not commendable to make Weightman the fall guy for all the inadequacies that have existed in our military hospitals for decades. Walter Reed Hospital is actually a step higher than most of the Veterans Affairs medical centers which are all grossly under funded and under staffed. Mr. Gates what you said March 1st is very commendable about the care and welfare of our veterans demands the highest standard of excellence and commitment that we can muster as a government. What we always needed as veterans is quality health care, respect from a knowledgeable health care provider, and the chance to resume a comfortable life as a productive member of the society for which we offered to give up our own life to serve and protect.

The Paradox Of Power And Freedom Of Speech

There is a very interesting paradox between power and freedom of speech. The more powerful a public figure is, the more she has to watch what is leaving her mouth because her "multiplier effect" would be immeasurably greater than that of an average citizen. A powerful politician is the benchmark with which others further down in the power hierarchy calibrate their own criteria and attitudes. If you excuse this family analogy, if a parent curses it doesn't take too long before the kids start cursing too. But if a child curses we usually excuse him and admonish him to do better. "Freedom of expression" in the sense of "blurting out whatever one wants to say" is not something that those who have climbed to responsible positions in a society are at a liberty to enjoy without any consideration for the consequences.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali - Between Two Worlds

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a woman equally scorned by some Muslims and secularists in Holland. Her new book, an autobiography with the clever title "Infidel" will confirm many of their prejudices. Born in Somalia, she made it to Holland as a young woman after escaping the marital plans her family was hatching on her behalf. She claims they wanted to marry her off to a distant relative in Canada. The family deny this arranged marriage story, but in the intervening years it's become part of the Hirsi Ali legend. Despite many hardships she took full advantage of the opportunities Holland had to offer.

India Needs A President Like Us President

Is it time for India to switch over to Presidential form of government? ? India requires political leader ship with a vision that looks beyond caste, communal and regional politics. Indian political leadership need to focus on good governance that leverage the skills of its people and resources. Endowed with massive human resource talent as well as enormous natural resources, India could have achieved much more than what it has achieved so far. But unfortunately, India is a country of contradictions. India got nuclear bombs, warships, huge army, vast IT talent and skilled workforce, but India is also place for millions and millions of people who have no access to pure drinking water, proper health care, reasonable shelter and social security.

America s Presidential Campaigns - The Need for a New Vision

Let us not forget that there is another way that one could conceive of and run a national campaign. It is the way of integrity and of focus. It would ask each citizen to reflect more and to rely on appearance less, in order to be responsive to the new-level of discussion that would take place. In every area in which consciousness exists, the possibility is also present to make choices that are more or less moral concerning thought and behavior, and to bring every aspect of one's thinking into the highest light. In relation to the national political scene, there is much unconsciousness that operates on all levels, and much manipulation that takes place by those who have a vested interest in shaping a particular outcome or in presenting things in a particular way.

Nigerian Senate Vows To Wipe Out Corruption

The President of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani, has warned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against selective prosecution of the war against corruption Nnamani said this on Sunday during the Grand House Reception held for him at The Coliseum in Lagos. He said, "There is no corrupt politician that is more important than the other. There should be no sacred cow. Our people are watching. Selective fight will not succeed. "All the countries that were at par with us 15 years ago - India, Malaysia, South Korea, Pakistan, etc - are by far ahead now. Most of them have no oil. "The EFCC is a very good commission aimed at curtailing the excesses of our people.

Illegal Immigration and Our Constitution

What does our Constitution have to do with illegal immigration? Glad you asked actually. Now then, regarding the issues of Illegal Immigration, indeed that is the job of the Federal Government to protect "against foreign invaders" and yet we must also be weary of protocols, international trade and travel too. The State of California is asking the Federal Government to make good on the monies it has spent in its hospitals, prisons and social services. In Arizona 55% of all inmates are now illegal aliens. Meanwhile we have 4.9% unemployment and while some complain of under-employment, this number is the lowest it has ever been in our nation"s history.

Libby Verdict A Sham

Joe Wilson, a partisan hack and husband of Valerie Plame made many false claims starting this whole messy affair, referred to as the Scooter Libby trial. Wilson went to Niger, Africa on a partisan attack mission, attempting to prove that deception, was, what led to the Iraq War. A ridiculous trial resulting in a guilty verdict for Scooter Libby was the end result. The whole trial had nothing to do with the original charge-the outing of Valerie Plame as a CIA agent. The person who revealed her name, which was a non-leak, became known to the prosecutor before the Libby trial began. That person was Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage.
