Non-Practicing Ideologues
Former vice-president, and self-proclaimed once the "next president of the United States", Al Gore shows no signs of stopping his assault on the Jabberwocky of man-made global warming. And why should he? He did, after all, have had a hand in creating the internet. With a resume enhancement like that who can blame him? His latest excursion took him to Capitol Hill in search of a platform to preach for new converts to his religion. Once there Mr. Environmentalist continued with his same mantra that he runs around the world spouting about how manmade global warming is going to doom us all to simultaneously both a fiery and a watery death, claiming a "consensus" on the issue that doesn"t exist and telling everyone that they need to conserve and alter their life style.
America s Spiritual History: The Impulse That Gave Birth to a Nation
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for a people to assert its right to freely exist as an independent society, unhampered by restrictions by a governmental authority that is far away and that does not have its best interests at heart, then it behooves that society and that people to express, in words that are clear and cogent, the reasons for its removal from the authority which it has labored under. This removal, rather than being an act of defiance and provocation, is an act of self-affirmation and of positive movement toward a future in which the governed shall govern their own communities and society, and in which the voice of the people shall be heard.
The Hidden Power Of Compromise
Desire is good; yes? If greed is good, according to Wall Street and Michael Douglas, then desire must be good as well. Desire, greed avarice, hatred - maybe they are all good in this era of the ends justifying the means regardless of what those means are. What harm can come from sticking to our guns and digging in our heels and never compromising? Never say that you are sorry, right? Or say that you are wrong. It shows weakness. This is exactly where many of us are right now, afraid to bend whatever principles we feel necessary to survive in a pond that is shrinking exponentially. We are petrified, and when fear rules, the rules are no longer feared.
Earmarks - Ten U.S. House Members Looking Out For Taxpayers
Some U.S. Senators and U.S. House Members are waging a great battle against excessive federal spending. Winning this battle is crucial to the American way of life; losing this battle holds peril for our future. Let"s get behind these courageous men. By doing so we help ourselves and the nation. The Club For Growth, as the name implies, promotes prosperity and opportunity through economic freedom. The Club recently presented its scorecard. In the House, Jeff Flake (R) Arizona fought never ending battles for the taxpayers in the year 2006. Thirty-nine times he tried to shoot down earmarks, on the House Floor and 39 times he was voted down, but all year he shed light on pork/earmarks.
African Leaders Mindset
There are little things some African leaders should be subjected to before taking over power. They should be appreciative, of "little things", which the creator has bestowed on the continent. A visionary leadership cannot come to be: going by the unpopular actions and decisions of some African leaders. Without a vision, a people perish. Little things begat great things. They need to sit back and think hard for once especially those countries that are in different shades of turmoil. As I have remarked elsewhere, no foreign nation outside the fringes of the continent will waste their real resources to chart a path of progress for black Africa.
What Works for Africans
Africans have come a long way to start thinking about their values of old, despite the infusion of foreign cultures and going by the fallout of the well worn cliché: the world is a global village. Certain things work for a people. In addition, for those who have embraced the latter, they make the best out of the shared common values. For instance, Africans have been struggling with the idea of individualism that is foreign to them; this form of social behavior though has its own advantages. African"s collective or communal approach - in their worldview - serves as a check on anti-social behaviour, which also works in reducing conflicts.
Welcome To Cambodia
INTRODUCTION: From my perspective I think that Cambodia, a Buddhist country, is a wonderful place in the World. Kampuchea is indescribable beauty... gastronomy... famous for its hospitality... is a country of ancient culture, history and traditions... totally different from other nations around the world. Cambodia was a French Colony and has a population of 12 million people. Khmer is the official language. CAMBODIA IS THE HOME... Haing S. Ngor (actor), who won an Oscar for his supporting role as Dith Prath in "The Killing Fields" (1984), a film about the genocide in Cambodia. Today his name is famous all over the world.
Russia and Iran Lock Horns
In the global climate of real or imagined nuclear proliferation, Russian and Iran are beginning to lock horns, stimulated by the stance of the United Nations. Russia has informed Iran that it will be withholding nuclear fuel from the country until they cease uranium enrichment, as prompted by the U.N. Russia has reportedly been helping build nuclear facilities in Iran, which has proved to be extremely profitable for the nation. Russia received a letter from the U.N., demanding an ultimatum be given to Iran. Russia complied, but did so rather willingly as it seems Iran has "forgot to pay the bills" to Russia.
MySpace Launching Political Careers?
Presidents frequently pour massive amounts of money into their election campaigns- this is nothing new. What is new, however, is a new fad for the upcoming election- MySpace. Yes, the same social networking website that young teenagers use to communicate and make new friends. And why not? There is already for significant commercial potential on MySpace - internet marketers have found a place to gain massive traffic for their sites and reap the rewards in terms of monetization. So why not launch political careers in this way? It makes sense if only someone can begin to harness the technology correctly.
More on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed - What About Osama Bin Laden?
I thought I"d chime up with my own tuppence worth on some issues that are raised by the recent Khalid Sheikh Mohammed debacle... The first thing I"d like to say is that it appears to have been widely appreciated just how ridiculous the "confessions" obtained by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed appear to be. For those who don"t know (if you have been living under a rock for the past week), Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has admitted to being the mastermind behind every terrorist atrocity, real and imagined, since about 1980. My main point is this: whilst many of us accept that at least some of these confessions seem a little spurious, how, therefore, can we accept any of them?
