In Critique of Mass Media and Internet News

Most people realize the power of the media in our society and civilization. On one hand it provides instant access for information world-wide. On another hand often the information provided can be skewed and selective and with the ominous power over the minds of the people it can be a scary thought indeed. There has been some very strong criticism of the media and its problems, as well as what it brings to the world. An interesting book, I read was "Data Smog" which talks to the abundance of meaningless, trite and filler in electronic news and the Internet. Today we see an IBM article in the news and folks trying to determine if the "Internet is Addicting.

Green Plumbing - Rain And Grey Water Harvesting, Solar Hot Water Systems - Melbourne, Australia

With increasing climatic condition change and prolonged drought conditions in Ausralia, many people are trying to save water and energy on the dryest inhabited continent on earth. The buildings in which we live, work and play, protect us from the elements but also shape the environment around us. The construction and operation of buildings requires a huge input of resources. The location of buildings and what resources are used affects the ecosystem in a number of ways. As the environmental impact of buildings becomes more apparent people are looking for ways that can significantly decrease this impact and make their homes and offices healthier to live and work in.

Does The News Media Have A Moral Responsibility?

Much has been said in recent years about the increasingly irresponsible news media. For those of us who remember Walter Cronkite, we are amazed by the sleazy depths to which our news media can go nowadays. Their present fascination with Anna Nichole Smith"s death perfectly illustrates those depths. It is commonly speculated that the drive for increasing profits by the corporate owners of the news outlets, along with fierce and unanticipated competition from the cable channels and Internet blogs have motivated a new focus upon the lurid. I might add the media consultants who insist that appealing to the lowest common denominator, not hard news, brings and keeps viewers or readers.

Charity

Each one of us is so busy in our life that we hardly give a thought to what is going around us. Most of us do not think of returning even a fraction to our society from where we have so much. We have become so selfish that we only think about us and do not give a helping hand to the ones who require the support from us. There are orphans, unwedded mothers who nee our support, there are HIV patients who need to be cared and feel like normal people. Then there are local parks that need to be cared for, that require being greener. Homer has rightly said, "The charity that is a trifle to us can be precious to others.

If You Think You are Here You Might Actually Be There from Where I Am

Most people in our society are completely lost and there is the old joke that people don't know their rear end from a hole in the ground. Of course self-evaluation is also necessary so that you know who you are and where you are and hopefully you have some kind of memory to know how you got there. If you think you are here you might actually be there from where I am standing, because I am standing right here where I am. What you see is not what I see because I see you and you see me, therefore we have a different view of things or a different perspective if you will. From these observations we might come to different conclusions and it is a lot like looking in a mirror.

Find Out About People

Ok, there's someone you know but you only have their phone number or address. So the question you ask yourself is "How do I find out about people and, to be exact, how do I find out more about about this particular person? " There are many ways to find out about people with the Internet technology we have today. In fact, it makes it so easy to find someone. If you're connected to the internet, just a few stroke on the keyboard and you got your information. But the simple truth is that even with this technology, we find it difficult to get the results we want. It's not the technology that is the stumbling block, but that we are not using all the resources available.

African Americans And Latinos: Neither Enemies Nor Friends

This article comes to my mind reading hearing that a 14 year old black boy was shot by Latino gangs in the streets of Los Angles while chatting with his friends on January 17, 2007. Latinos are the fastest growing ethnic group and in future the largest minority group in US overshadowing the Blacks who one day had the same situation as Latinos have today. From the days of Civil Right Movements in 1960s with the slogan of "Black and Brown together, forever? " there is always this question that whether this coalition helps American democracy or how does it work. There are two main controversies regarding Black- Latino coalition;
