A Game of Will Power - Government Versus Terrorist

Picture this. You are driving your car in a one-way street and all of a sudden there appears another car, driving right at you. There is no space to turn. You stop your car and wait until the other puts his in the back-gear. But this does not happen. You wait some more and notice that the person behind the other steering-wheel signals you to go back.

You have probably experienced this. According to the other drivers' attitude he will either excuse himself -- sorry I haven t seen that this was a one-way street, but some people can be really annoying. Even if they are driving in the wrong direction, that doesn t keep them from acting as if they where right.

...You wait some more and then the man in the car steps out of the car. You step out too -- let"s solve this one you think -- but the other draws a gun and shoots you in the head.

Didn"t happen? Well, you are wrong, the other driver was a terrorist.

If you think you can talk in a normal way with a terrorist you are wrong. They do not respond to normal rules.

A terrorist has an over average amount of willpower. If you are in his (or her, let"s not forget that there a female terrorists) way you will have a problem, because he will not cease.

This is what happened with Juana Chaos, a recently released terrorist after a hunger strike. The Spanish government argued: "we are human and that"s what makes us different then terrorists." And so they gave in, on "humanitarian grounds." Or just too terrified to let him die?

An apparent dilemma for the socialist government is to be tough on terrorists. But if you are social, you should not make the mistake to think that others are also social. Terrorists have their own rules and you can only beat them using their own principles.

What kept the Government from leaving the terrorist with his hunger strike?

How easy would it be? No intervention, just using the same kind of will power as the terrorist... But unfortunately the terrorist wins this game and probably the next and the next and the one following that one. And we can only watch. Powerless, because we are too terrified for the consequences.
