Environment - Carbon Credit Manufacturing - A New Industrial Growth Sector
Did you know that companies can now buy and sell "carbon credits" internationally just like other goods and services regularly bought and sold on the international market? There are two important prerequisites for this new carbon credit business: 1) Your country must have signed the Kyoto Protocol (the United States has still not signed it as of March 2007). These credits are made possible by the Kyoto's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). That's why sometimes this new line of trading is also referred to simply as "CDM" business. 2) You have to register your "carbon saving" project with the United Nations before you can sell your credits to other international purchasers.
Breathe Fresh Air In Your Home-Symptoms Aleveated With Air Purifier-Little Maintenance Required
It's time to stop ignoring the polluted air we breathe, both for ourselves and most importantly for our children. Anyone who has read any of the articles I have written in my short writing career will know that when I present a problem, I back it up with a logical solution. The pollution in our air is probably the most dangerous aspect presented to us in our daily lives today. We have all heard the warnings that our indoor air is at least 5/6 times more polluted than the outside air (EPA studies have proven this). The chemicals that are being emitted off your carpet, laminates, hardwood flooring.
The Dream Of The Electric Society
Of the many political topics discussed in this column, I cannot really categorize this article. I can tell you that it was inspired by a letter from California Senator Barbara Boxer yesterday regarding global warming. I subscribe to the Senator's email newsletters, and yesterday's certainly got my attention. I had planned on a releasing a review of the Congress' performance to date, and a follow up on the next steps (ending the Iraq War, Impeachment Proceedings, and Investigations Into 9/11, etc). The Senator's letter though, made me realize that there is knowledge that I have, and to some extent take for granted, that is not commonplace in America today.
Book Review : The Lost Language of Plants
Book Reviewed: The Lost Language of Plants: The Ecological Importance of Plant Medicine to Life on Earth Author: Stephen Harrod Buhner As the author points out early in his book "this is a book about feelings" as well as ideas. Mr. Buhner"s central thesis is that as humanity gradually adopts increasingly limiting epistemologies, as depicted early on by Descartes" "I think therefore I am", thereby effectively excising human feelings from what it means to be human, and more recently through the adoption of evidence based scientific/medical reductionism philosophies, it finds itself increasingly disconnected from its rightful place as an integral part of Nature.
Carbon Offsetting
Wouldn"t it be great if there was a magic solution to the problems of climate change, if we could just press a button or do something easy to let us off the hook so we can carry on living the life we want to lead? This is the promise of Carbon Offsetting. If you haven"t heard of it, Carbon Offsetting is a way of balancing the problems of greenhouse gases by making an eco positive investment like planting a tree. Almost everything we do can produce greenhouse gases, things like flying, driving, and food that"s flown in from the other side of the world are some worst offenders - some of the more hidden ones are electricity generation and construction, manufacture, shipping and disposal.
Is Solar Energy Reliable?
Solar power is becoming a way of life for many people across the globe. From isolated communities to inner city suburbs, solar energy is becoming a very popular choice to better the environment. Solar energy has been in existence ever since life on our planet began. We have been using the strength of the sun in many different ways, past and present. The more modern technique of using solar energy has been through the use of solar panels. Solar energy is 100% reliable, if our planet did not receive this energy, or if the energy increased or dropped significantly, then the earth would more than likely struggle to support mankind.
Websites To Help You Go Green
This month I've happened upon a number of websites that can help your business or your home become more environmentally friendly. With the popularity of "being green" at what seems like an all time high, it's a great time to make some of these small changes that can make a big difference for the environment. RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES I admit this is one area our business needs to improve on. Things like digital cameras, flashlights, stereos, and other small electronics run on batteries and re-buying them every time they get used up is not only wasteful but also impractical. There are a number of options now for rechargeable batteries.
Global Warming - Shedding New Light On A Sticky Subject
I notice plenty going on in the media these days on the subject of global warming and all the various ways people like you and I can help to counteract it. There is a huge smorgasbord of ideas to choose from ranging from the highly creative to just changing the sort of light bulbs we buy. For example we now know we live in a world where there are ways of producing fuel that is safe, inexpensive and ecological. No more concerns about rising oil prices and unsustainable use of fossil fuels. Just imagine, all the talk and concern about global warming could simply be a thing of the past, slipping permanently and inexorably into the annals of history.
The Benefits Of Environmentally Friendly Cars
If you are interested in saving the environment and making the world a better place you are not alone. There are many ways that you can do this, and one of the best is through the use of a car that is environmentally friendly. Although these models are few and far between at this point, over the next few years this is set to change quite a bit. After all, for a car manufacturer to keep up in today"s day and age they are going to have to offer green cars that will suit both drivers and the environment. It is safe to say that this is a challenge that they are up to.At this point there are several environmentally friendly cars on the road;
Does Daylight Saving Time Really Save Energy?
So why have we decided to extend Daylight Saving Time (DST) by a month in 2007? The stated goal is to cut electricity consumption by 1%. General consensus has it that a large percentage of energy is consumed by lighting and appliances when people are at home in the evenings. By extending evening daylight an hour, one can conclude that less lighting will be used and people will spend more time outdoors thus saving electricity. What kind of evidence do we have to support this common knowledge? Well, not much. The last major study done in the U.S. was conducted in the 1970"s and based its conclusions largely on simulations rather than any empirical evidence.
