What is the Sea Shepherd and What Are They Doing?
What is the Sea Sheperd? The Sea Shepherd is essentially an international non-profit organization working towards the preservation of marine wildlife. Named as the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, the organization was established in 1977 and was formally incorporated in the state of Oregon, United States in 1981. The Sea Shepherd is involved in various activities. As of last year, their activities included calling for a 20-year closure of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland to protect endangered species which include the cod among others. They have also been involved - and won - in a legal battle concerning the illegal fishing operations in Brazil.
Who Owns the Sea - Us, Them, Or We?
We have a problem in our world's oceans. We have dead zones, almost completely void of oxygen off the coast of nearly every major city in the world. That includes off the coast of Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Shanghai, Beijing, Australia, etc. In fact, the larger, the city the more the problem; these problems are due to urban runoff, nitrates from our agriculture, untreated sewage, and just general pollution. We are killing our oceans, and we are also overfishing them. Something needs to be done. We also have giant trash islands in the Pacific and in the Atlantic, which are so big that ships have to navigate around them when they come close.
Wastewater Nitrogen Phosphorous Removal Through Treatment
Wastewater Nitrogen: Wastewater entering stabilization ponds is exposed to a complex ecosystem and almost all of the physical, chemical and biological activities will determine the form and fate of the nutrients in it. Many transformations take place during the long detention times of the pond systems. Wastewater Nitrogen is removed by: Blue-green algae Biological uptake (algae, plants, bacteria etc.) Ammonia volatilization (pH change) Nitrification to nitrate and nitrite (aerobic) Denitrification to nitrogen gas (anaerobic) Retention in benthic sludges Biological hydrolysis of organic nitrogen Its adsorption to various combinations Very low concentration of nitrite and nitrate are found in the effluents even though the bacteria for ammonia oxidation and oxygen (through photo-synthesis and natural aeration) are available.
Why Wait For Recovery? Companies Benefit From Going Green Now
Smart companies worldwide are not waiting for the economic recovery to green up their business practices. The steps they are taking now to improve the sustainability of their operations often help to accelerate their recovery from tough economic times that much more quickly. In the past, bringing environmentalism to the workplace has been framed as a choice between saving the planet and accepting higher cost. No longer. Sustainability today means not having to choose between profit and principles. Here are three ways that greening up your business practices can immediately improve your business results.
What to Do If Your Property Has Oil, Gas, Or Other Minerals
There's no doubt about it: with ever-increasing demand, there never seems to be enough crude oil or natural gas to meet America's needs. If you happen to own property that is rich in these highly sought after minerals, you may wish to lease out the rights. But you need to protect yourself against these huge businesses by taking some very simple precautions. -- Take your time. You should never feel pressured into accepting any agreements or entering into any bargains quickly. If your land is truly valuable, whoever is soliciting you to lease will wait and be patient during the negotiating process: always remember, you have the goods so you are in charge of both the timing and the terms.
Recycling Printer Cartridges and Saving Money Doing It
An absurd amount of printer cartridges needlessly end up in landfills each year. Estimates are in the hundreds of millions yearly, which is over ten a second. Many of these can be refilled, saving you money, or otherwise recycled. Some recycling programs even pay you for returning your empty cartridges. I refill many of my cartridges, which is cheaper than buying new ones. These refilled ones are fine for my needs and are good enough for just about anything except perhaps demanding fine art and photography printing. You can refill many cartridges yourself and there are cartridge refill kits widely available.
Should A Global Climate Agreement Hold The US To A Higher Environmental Standard
Yes, the US should be held to a higher environmental standard than the rest of the world. We have benefited from a superior economic growth powered by consumption of a major share of the world's fossil fuels, causing a major share of the world's environmental pollution. We are technically equipped to lead toward a higher environmental standard. Currently, however, it would be a major challenge for the US to assume this leadership role. We will have to wait for a new administration that, hopefully, will want this role for us. The Bush administration has continued to reject actions to reduce global warming pollution.

The Versatile Bamboo - Its Contributions To Our Environment
China has at present more than five million hectares of bamboo plantation and still growing. In recent years bamboo has also been lauded as a source of fabric. Bamboo cloth is gaining popularity in the world market, for its softness comparable to silk and its ability to produce fabrics that breathe. Few are aware that there are at least 1500 recorded uses of bamboo. It can be used either as food (bamboo shoot), shelter (bamboo grove or rest houses), clothing (bamboo fabric), protection (fence, windbreaker and soil erosion) and fishing materials. Its roots are used for handicrafts such as carvings and charcoal, the butt and lower portion of the culm are used for furniture and construction.
Telemarketing And Junk Mail -A New Approach
One of the good points about being on the Internet is that you build up a large number of friends all over the Internet. Most of them you will never meet but as you exchange e-mails you really do get to know them. One such person for me is John Fox-Kirk a legal consultant who lives in Leeds.UK The other day John passed on to me an e-mail that he had received from a guy called Andy Rooney who I had never heard of. Andy"s pet hates are telemarketing and junk mail and he sent out an e-mail with his tips on how to deal with these problems. It is obvious that we are kindred spirits so I thought I would pass on some of Andy"s ideas along with a few techniques of my own.
