Honour Killings - An Obscured Epidemic In India

Prima facie, the coinage honour killings seems to be purely contradictory. Many of us wonder how in God's name are the terms honour and the brutal lynching of a life in cold blood ever related. We can't even dare to conjure up in the worst of our nightmares of retaining honour by squeezing out pools of blood from our loved ones. We have been cultivated so intelligently to pass on the buck to our notorious neighbor- Pakistan for everything that is disgraceful and nasty. Up until now most of us have been brought up to think that heinous crimes like Honour killings take place in oppressive nations like Pakistan.

Risk Factors Associated With Juvenile Delinquency

Risk factors can be described as scientifically established reasons that have a strong correlation or a causal relationship to a problem. Thorough understanding of numerous factors that result in juvenile delinquency can help the society in getting solutions to deal with this problem. Some of these factors have been listed below. Environmental level factors -- Environment or the surroundings where a child grows has a phenomenal role in influencing the behavioral patterns in children. Some environmental level factors that have been traditionally identified with violent and delinquent behavior include poverty, excessive exposure to violence and crime, high rate of unemployment and limited economic opportunities.

Is Human Behavior Learned?

Yes! Human behavior is past down from generation to generation. Human behavior is learned behavior. What do you think about that? Just remember that an explanation is not a justification. Crime is a reality in our country whether we like it or not. Poor family values, poverty, poor education, these are the contributing factors that lead many men and women to crime. There are some well read and educated persons who believe that the human brain is wired for violence. What if I told you that violence was learned? Violence is past down from generation to generation, like wealth and heirlooms.

Dead Canadians and Mexican Injustice

Since 2000 some 250 Canadians have been killed abroad. Over the past few years there has been an upward spike in the number of Canadian tourists who have been killed in Mexico. Canadians better be prepared to tough it out if they get into trouble abroad. Don't expect the government to protect you. They're too busy defending the rights of the people of Afghanistan and bending over backward in high profile cases like Maher Arar. If you are just an ordinary Joe with no propaganda value, then take your chances in Mexico and other crime infested tourist locales because there will be no Mounties galloping to your defense if you or yours gets knifed, shot or worse.

Humans are Much More Honest in the Beginning of the Week!

Once I had a friend who was a Los Angeles County Sheriff and he told me that Sunday until about 1:00 pm there was absolutely no crime in the city. Why? Well all the criminals were with their families at church in the morning and then about 1:00 the calls started to come in. These calls got progressively worse as night time approached. Next within a few days the calls were at the normal crime level until the weekend approached and then the calls went thru the roof and if it was a full-moon they were tripled that week. Why? He had this theory that Biblical Followers were much more Honest in the Beginning of the week!

From Hole to Whole

On March 20, 1992 I was convicted of five armed bank robberies, over a six-month crime spree when I was 28 years old. I was sentenced to 157 months, thirteen years and one month behind the razor wire of a Federal Correctional Institution in Florence, Colorado. The same complex that would later hold Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. Looking back at that time in my life, I can directly link my crimes and incarceration to the decision I made as a teenager, and in particular my decision to experiment with drugs. To sum it all up- drugs eventually became more important than anything or anyone else in my life, and bank robbery became a means in which I could feed my habit for another 30-60 days or the police were going to show up and I was going to make them doing something I did not have the guts to do myself- "suicide by police" is what they call that today.
