Web hosting companies pay a generous commission to anyone who refers a new customer. So, what these people are doing is taking the commissions you earn them for signing up for a new web hosting plan through them, and paying you that commission.
Why would they do that? Chances are if they are paying you $50 that they are receiving $60 or more in commissions, so they hope the volume of new customers they sign up will make up for the money they have to pay out. Secondly, the web hosting companies usually pay a performance award. So, for example, if you sign up 100 people in a month you get an extra $1,000 bonus. This is what most of the web hosting rebate sites are going for.
The bad new is they are not all legit. Their site may claim to click the banner ad on their site, order your web hosting, and expect $50 to be immediately sent to your PayPal account. Don't fall for it, because they need more information that that from you in order to be able to process your cash refund.
So when deciding which site to use for a web hosting rebate, make sure they are easily accessible and honest. Send them an email with some questions, and see how willing they are to help you out or make things clear. If they are legit, they have nothing to hide.
