Web Design and Traffic
The business website has to be designed with two different things in mind. First, it has to be user friendly to provide a comfortable experience to any visitors and second it has to be friendly to search engines in order to attract traffic to the site. Web design for search engines can be somewhat confusing to the average business owner and most companies will relegate this project to an expert familiar with search engine optimization.
Organic searches conducted on search engines are dependent on the users entering the right search term that agrees with the information located on their websites. Web search engines are designed to match the terms entered by the users with content on the pages and currently most are looking for information on websites. Additionally, the search engines are looking at websites that not only provide authentic information about the search term but how well they are accepted by other websites.
Links to website from other sites with relative content is one of the algorithms used by the search engines. It perceives these links to be vote of confidence that the site has the information the user is looking for. Many companies are using articles geared towards information that can be found on their website that are distributed for others to use as a means of gaining links back to their site to make it more attractive to search engines.
In additional to organic search engine optimization, companies are also using pay per click advertising, essentially buying their position on search engine results pages. Whenever a user conducts a search, the results are accompanied by advertising directed at the search term the company is willing to pay for. For example, if a company wins a bid of a nickel a click for the work truck, every time that term is used in a search, an ad will come up and if the user clicks on the ad the company is charged a nickel.
Some are also using affiliate marketing as an unpaid form of pay per click advertising. With affiliate advertising the company allows other qualified websites to place ads for them on their sites. When a visitor to the affiliated site clicks through to their site and make a purchase, they pay a commission to the website owner for referring the sale. With this model, the company advertising the other company makes money on the sales without the need to warehouse merchandise or handle any of the sales paperwork. The advertising company not increase their sales but adds a link back to their site from the affiliate.
