Web Site Design - The Simple Secret Of Web Site Success
If your website is a commercial website with the objective of enhancing your sales and marketing, there"s only one thing to put on it. An offer. Yes, that"s all. And that offer should be visible on the very first page. All the other pages on your web site are in support of the offer. All the other pages have no purpose but to elaborate on the offer, explain the offer, answer questions about the offer, help visitors accept the offer, or help them believe in the credibility of the offer.
That sound too simple? Well, it is simple and it"s a simple rule that many web sites violate. You"ve probably seen examples of non-offer web sites. The "vanity" web site is a classic - a self-centered web site that explains everything about the company who has the site but doesn"t make an offer that anybody can act on. It"s like being introduced to someone at a bar where you say "Hi! My name is Alex!" and then you turn on your heel and walk away instead of saying "Can I buy you a drink?" or "Care to join me?" or "Like to have breakfast with me?" If there"s no offer, there"s no action. Your web sit is no different.
Your home page (sometimes called a "splash" page) needs to immediately put an offer in front of the visitor. The offer has to be stimulating enough to get the visitor to act - either by deciding to purchase the product/service, or by contacting you. To help the visitor get to the point that they are willing to act, you provide supplemental pages that tell them why your products are the best, why your company is reliable and trustworthy, and how they can contact you. That"s it. Make your offer, support it. Anything else on your site is fluff.
