Build A Website That Works And Get Enthusiastic About Life At The Same Time!
Have you ever made a life changing decision either because you wanted to or because you HAD to?
Three years ago, I made a huge decision to quit my highly paid day job in the retail industry to follow a dream, the dream to run my own cycling holiday business with my husband. We planned everything carefully, knowing that the first few years would be tough financially. To that end we knew we would need a small secondary income to support ourselves in our start-up phase. We just did not know what that second income was going to be!
My husband did a distance learning web design course so we could manage our own cycling holiday website without having to pay a web designer. All we had to do was pay an annual hosting fee and do some advertising to drive traffic to our website. The trouble was, we realised we also needed to spend time and money on so many other things, like search engine submission and optimization (SEO) and then we realised that many of the tools we had with our hosting site were inadequate. For example, we did not have comprehensive traffic stats with actual VISITOR numbers (only hits) and we could not track online promotions effectively as we had no facility to use tracking links.
Some of the website "jargon" I"ve just mentioned like SEO, I didn"t even know anything about until I came across something on the web that made me make another life changing decision:

Yes, me, an ex retailer who positively HATED anything to do with IT. The thing that made me take the plunge was reading some truly inspiring case studies from people, like me, complete web design novices, who had started their own successful businesses. I quickly realised that I could use my past retailing skills to generate a whole new set of loyal customers just by providing information or Content they couldn"t do without. And loyal customers keep coming back...
(Translated onto the web, that means TRAFFIC and lots of it as word of mouth grows about the indispensable service/information/product you provide.)
And I realised I could build a website from scratch, with no prior knowledge of web design, simply by following a detailed process, implementing the various strategies and asking for help whenever I got stuck. I won"t say the first couple of weeks were not hard, it was a huge learning curve and I feared I was turning into some internet geek with all the new stuff I was learning! But once I got over the initial shock to the system, I discovered a whole new world.
Oh and it has already become a second source of income; my first site has paid for itself and I have just started my second. So my new found passion is helping to finance my existing business and my passion for mountain biking and the great outdoors.
