Why Is Page Rank so Important?
Most people accept that Google is the most important of the search engines when it comes to getting traffic, this is not to discount any of the others but when it comes to getting your site listed in the results pages, Google is the one you need to know about. Page Rank is one of Google's systems for raking a site. A high page rank will often mean that your site will be looked upon more favorably than a similar site with a lower page rank or PR. There are things you can do to increase this if you understand what they are looking for.
A high PR is an indication to the search engines that your site is of quality, is relevant to the user and meets the at least the minimum requirements that Google is looking for. In order to get the results you want from the search engines your site really needs to be listed on the first page for the search term that the viewer has typed in. This goes for all of the SE's not just the big Google. While you will get some traffic from lower pages getting on page 1 is where your aim should be.
That is why it becomes so important to try and focus on your PR, ranked in importance from 0 up to 10 the higher your number, then generally the higher your ranking compared to similar sites. Unless you have a specialized source of traffic, then getting ranked in the search engines should be what you spend a lot of your time doing. Just what it is you need to do has been argued since Google was conceived but there are a few main factors that almost everyone will agree on.
Good keyword research and selection is very important to getting your site seen in the listings because after all they are trying to match the users search term or keywords with the most relevant matches. If your site is all about fast cars and you want people to find you using that term then you need to focus your site or that page around that term, one important thing to note is that it will hurt you to just throw in the term fast cars over and over again where it doesn't really fit. This is called keyword stuffing and should be avoided.
The site has to appear natural which means using one of Google's newer measures LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing, meaning that not only do you need to have fast cars but also related terms like powerful, vehicles, motor, engine etc. And of course just naturally in your sentences, not thrown in there like the previous example. The way the sites are indexed now is almost the way a person would like to view your content so keep it natural, and relevant and the best quality you can muster. This will go along way to helping your page rank and getting your site seen.
