How To Structure Your Website For Better Rankings

A high search engine ranking is the goal of virtually every website owner and with good reason. Just because you have published a website does not mean that visitors will come, and it can take a lot of money in advertising to attract targeted visitors without the help of organic search engine results. In order to get a good search engine ranking, you must optimize your website for search engines. The majority of search engine ranking comes from the content of a website, so it is important to structure your website in such a way that is conducive to higher rankings.

Getting your website to the top of organic search engine listings is not an easy task, but with the proper approach, time, and patience, you can see your website's ranking improve. After you do successfully implement effective search engine optimization techniques, you must then work to maintain your rankings by frequently monitoring your rank and making any necessary modifications or improvements in your search engine optimization, as your competitors will be continuously improving theirs.

The first step to properly optimizing your website is in the html formatting. The html structure of your website not only controls how your website is displayed, but it can also hold keyword information that can help to improve your rankings. Meta tags are special tags in the header of each pages' html code that allow you to place relevant keywords that help search engines to index your website. Use different keywords on each page in the meta tag section that relate to the content of the page. It is important to only use relevant keywords and only to use the most important ones. Using different keywords for each page that relate to that page's specific content is the best way to use meta tags effectively.

Meta tags are not the only way html can help you to increase your rankings. Using html tags in the content of each web page can also help your search engine rankings. Placing keywords in heading tags or using formatting tags such as bold, italics, or underline are also good ways to use html to accentuate keywords and in turn increase your ranking. You can also use keywords as links to other pages in your site as opposed to using graphical buttons as navigation. Make sure your site contains error free html and periodically check al of your links to make sure they all work. Error free pages will get ranked better over time than pages with many html errors and broken links.

Your sites content is also very important if you want high rankings. Original, valuable, and keyword rich content is one of the best ways to get your site ranked higher. Visitors who are searching for specific words and phrases are much more likely to see your site ranked high if it contains content that is relevant to their search terms. Getting your website ranked high will take time and work but it is well worth the effort as organic search results are the best, and lowest costing, way to drive traffic to your site.
