Do People Really Want Blu-Ray on a Portable DVD Player?

The fight for dominance in the high fidelity home entertainment market has finally ended. Blu Ray is the victor and HD has been relegated to the history books, alongside Betamax and Minidisk players.

EBay has close to 3,000 Blu-Ray players listed on its site and Amazon.com has a little over 2200 players for sale showing perhaps the gap is shrinking between those two industry giants as well.

But if you are an eBay reseller or a dropshipper selling the car DVD player and portable DVD player online you still need one question answered.

Will my customers actually be interested in a Blu Ray portable DVD or car DVD player?

Interest on more portable forms of Blu Ray players have been decidedly muted largely for a number of reasons the main ones being:

* The small screen size doesn't effectively 'show off' the higher definition
* It's more than double the price of standard portable DVD players or even home theater * Blu Ray players
* Discs are more expensive
* It consumes more power

Shoppers looking for a portable DVD player essentially want a "second" entertainment source that they can take with them on holiday.

This could be used by the traveling executive or by kids on a family vacation.

The two biggest concerns of people shopping for such DVD players are cost and the ability to be multifunctional.

Here are some other things that consumers would like to see their portable DVD player models have:

Digital TV Compatibility

With the FCC-mandated June 12 deadline for ceasing analog transmission in the US, around the corner a portable DVD player capable of receiving digital signals will be a huge decision tilter. When looking for this though ensure that you are listing players with the correct standard.

DVB players will work in most countries but they won't work in the US and ATSC capable units will work in the US, Canada and Mexico but won't be any good in Europe.

Gaming Capabilities

Can the player be hooked up to a gaming console? This helps on those long road trips with a couple of kids in the back seat.

USB and card inputs

Are you able to plug the memory card from your camera directly into the portable player?

Card ports capable of handling multiple formats will a great help to play those holiday videos and look at the pictures on a bigger screen and are being offered by a number of China manufacturers of the portable DVD player.

Get the function set right on the items you are listing online and you will be away laughing.

The right player will bring in many sales and leave many satisfied customers. But there is one thing for sure... for now it won't play Blu Ray DVDs.
