Affordable Dental Insurance - The Pro s And Con s Of Buying Dental Insurance

Have you been looking for an affordable dental insurance plan for yourself or your family? If so, are you looking because you realize you need to have a dental plan because you've neglected the care of your teeth or are you looking because you have an immediate need that you must be seen for?

The reason that I'm asking these questions is because although there is affordable dental insurance out there that can be purchased online, you will NOT get adequate coverage from most of these cheap plans. I highly recommend that you look closely at the exclusions of the policy before you buy any dental plan. This will list all of the things that are NOT covered by the plan and you must know these before you buy. A "decent" dental insurance plan can actually be quite expensive. I've seen family plans as high as $100.00 per month. Of course this depends on where you live and the plan that you choose.

The biggest drawback with dental insurance is that it does not cover pre-existing conditions. This is why I asked if you have an immediate need. Insurance is designed to pay for protection fron "an unforseen event", not something that has already happened. In other words, if you already have bad teeth then you'll have to pay to get them fixed yourself because dental insurance will not do it for you. You are 100% on your own.

Your best bet if you have an immediate need for dental care is to join a Discount Dental Plan. Discount plans, unlike insurance (they're not insurance) will give you a big discount on any pre-existing condition you may have. As a matter of fact you may save as much as 60% on some dental care procedures, whereas, you'd be forced to pay all of the costs otherwise.

This is how Discount Dental Plans work.

#1. You simply find a local provider that accepts the plan. This is easy because there are over 100,000 providers nationwide that accept discount cards.

#2. Pay the low annual fee to become a member.

#3. Wait 1-3 days for your membership materials.

#4. Make an appointment with your new dentist (or your current dentist. They may already be a provider).

#5. Find out what must be taken care of and pay for your visit in full.

So if you've you've been looking for affordable dental insurance for yourself or your family, I urge you to look into joining a discount dental plan instead. Your immediate needs will get taken care of and you'll save big money on your ongoing dental care needs for as long as you remain a member. Do it today!
