What is a Hoodia Plant?

One of the biggest discoveries in recent years to help people control their weight is the Hoodia plant; some believe this is the discovery of the century. Merchandisers all over the world have started using this 'magic' plant in the composition of natural Hoodia weight loss products; each year the number of people becoming overweight is increasing so the market for this plant is huge. Unless you have already carried out some research it is doubtful you know more than a few facts about this incredible, natural resource.

There are in fact thirteen species of this cactus but one particular variety is used as an appetite suppressant. It is called Hoodia Gordonii and is found in the deserts of South Africa. To date, nothing medical science has created or investigated has come anywhere near as close to this plant and as a consequence there is a great demand for products containing it as an ingredient.

Before being included in weight loss treatments, this cactus was actually studied in laboratories and even directly tested in first-hand experiments. One of the examples of its effectiveness was quite astounding as it consisted of a number of BBC workers who volunteered to eat just a single Hoodia leaf. Nobody on the team required food or drink, once they had consumed it, for the entire day.

Unlike many other appetite suppressants, Hoodia weight loss products do not have any side effects. One doesn't need to worry about the adverse effects common to other weight loss products such as an abnormal heartbeat or digestive problems. The strange thing is the fact that whilst the product is being used, it does not make the user feel tired or listless.

Anyone using it should still eat healthily during the day and also maintain their fluid levels. Hoodia weight loss pills or extracts are just a way of reducing the amount of food you usually eat; this will not benefit a person however, if they eat so little they make themselves ill. Ideally, this is how Hoodia should be used, especially in obese people, just to control how much they eat.

It is important to mention that products containing the true ingredient are quite expensive as this plant is quite rare. This explains the high production costs. With a simple search performed on the Internet you will find dozens of Hoodia weight loss treatments that come in a variety of promotional offers. Be aware that many of them are forged, containing little or no real extract at all. Weight loss products that contain Hoodia extract are expensive but worth every penny so do not buy products that claim to use the extract that are sold cheaply.
