Breaking The Dieting Cycle
We've all been there, we get really excited and motivated about a new diet and exercise program and after about two weeks we see results and the scale goes down and then we get a little relaxed with our eating and then the scale goes right back up again.
This cycle can go on forever, lose a little , gain a little, lose a little, gain a lot. How do you break this cycle once and for all? Well, it needs to start with getting real about your weight loss goals. If you are trying to lose weight quickly for a special occasion or to fit into all of the size too small clothing you've been buying, it just won't work long term.
How do I know? I have yet to meet the person who successfully lost weight long term who did not a have a long term plan. Usually the plan stops after we reach our goals and then we go back to our patterns or we never even get to our goals in the first place before we begin gaining it all back.
Get out a piece of paper and write down your current weight and then really think about the weight you would like to be. This is not the your weight in high school or after crash dieting. This is your weight where you feel healthy, confident and most attractive. Now think about how long it will take you to get to that goal.
Be realistic, if you have over 100lbs to lose it could take a year or longer. If you have 40 lbs to lose it could take up to six months. Its OK to lose a lot of weight at first, but eventually the weight will slow a bit and you have to be OK with that! Losing weight at a safe and comfortable weight for your body will only ensure that you will keep it off for good. Think about it, the next six months to a year will pass anyway you can choose to weigh less in that amount of time or weight more. Its up to you!
Now find a plan that will work for you. Consider your lifestyle, do you work from home? Have a busy office job? Think about the changes you need to make in order to finally break the diet cycle. Perhaps, every Sunday night you could make a menu for the week and cook and freeze a lot of your meals for the week. If you have more time and initiative to cook, all the better!
Prepackaged meals and restaurant meals often times have more calories than food at home. Many times we eat more at a restaurant, if its there why not eat it? If you must eat out from time to time, scan the menu for the best choices. Avoid words like sauteed, or creamy and opt steamed or grilled options first. Look for lean meats and vegetables, and stick to whole grains if available. If you must have bread and pasta, try eat half or a fourth of what you normally would. If you know where you will be eating, checking out a restaurant menu before you go will help you make the best choices for your goals.
Keep in mind that your attitude changes everything! Diet and exercise does not have to be dull or boring. Taking care of yourself feels much better than stuffing yourself with pizza. There are many plans out there that could work for you. For me, Fat Loss 4 Idiots gave me the best information and resources at the best price. The program taught me how to eat in ways that I never would have considered. I love is because I do not have to buy pre-packed foods, or special meals. It works with me at home or at a restaurant. I wanted the best results in the shortest amount of time and so far this program has totally changed my life!
You need a diet that can work for you long term. I recommend reading the Token Fat Girl's Fat Loss 4 Idiots Review, which is how I learned about this great diet that really changed my life around! Along with a healthy diet you need to exercise. Buy an Exercise Bike or a Treadmill so that you can exercise from home!
