What s The Secret To Maintain a Healthy Weight?

Maintaining a healthy weight isn't a special secret, in fact natural weight loss is about eating properly and regular physical activity; although, not many people listen to this. You would think this simple set of instructions should be easy to follow; however, currently 35 percent of Americans are unable to prevent being overweight! There are many reasons why you would want to lose weight once you have put it on, but what reason is strong enough to actually encourage you to do it, good health or looks?

But the fact is it is a whole lot easier to prevent putting on pounds than to try losing them later on. This is something that all of us know deep down, that if we do not watch what we eat and how much we exercise, then we are doomed to an overweight future.

It has been shown that even when overweight people enjoy eating low calorie foods, the majority become bored and end up putting the weight back on because they slip back into previous ways. Despite the momentum towards weight gain, natural weight loss methods can stop this from happening, and there are plenty of good reasons to avoid piling on excess pounds that go beyond vanity or social acceptance.

The importance of maintaining the correct weight is more than just for looks especially as the number of health problems related to weight and obesity grows. If you think about it, losing excess weight by natural methods is the most acceptable way to get rid of those extra pounds but too many people want a 'quick fix' system.

Healthy eating on a natural weight loss program means learning to eat the right foods such as complex carbohydrates, those high in fiber, low in fat and a little protein. You have probably had a meal like this in a restaurant; a baked or jacket potato with fresh vegetables and some meat, as lean as possible but it wouldn't have gravy or butter on the potato.

Health experts say that dietary fat promotes weight gain because it is a very dense source of calories and you store those calories as body fat easier than calories from other sources. Don't fall into the fat-free trap where manufacturers keep coming out with low-fat or fat-free versions of their best-selling foods despite the fact that Americans are getting fatter anyway.

One of the greatest delusions of the 1990s was that no fat meant non-fattening but the truth is you are often getting just as many calories from these foods; the calories are just not coming from fat. This is a trap that many people fall into and forget it's about eating from the correct food groups, and if you have to snack make it a small healthy one.

The subject of when to eat and how often can be contentious but the latest thoughts on the subject suggest that keeping to regular meal times and eating small nutritious snacks between meals may be the answer. This is a subject that will continue to be debated for some time but natural weight loss is possible and should not be looked upon as a lost cause.
