Losing Weight is Different for Fat People Start with Leptin

How many times have you heard it?

"You just need to burn more calories than you consume."

Oh, really?

Like there are not a million other factors that could come in to play.

First of all, some people are so overweight or under-motivated that they can literally not bring themselves to do exercise. That coupled with the fact that they feel truly horrible if they try to cut calories can render the calorie vs. exercise statements meaningless.

So, what to do?

Well, one thing that has worked for me is becoming aware of the hormone leptin and its role in the body.

  • A Key Function of Leptin is to Control Appetite!

So, if you're body is resistant to leptin you brain will not receive signals that tell you that you've eaten enough!

You won't get a feeling of fullness, even if you eat for 5 hours! I know, I've done it many times. Just eat and eat and eat and eat, and then go look in the fridge. Don't you think that the ability to feel full may have a role in weight loss? Or is it just calories and exercise? Hey maybe it is for normal-weight people. This is about fat people.

How does a fat person become more leptin sensitive then? Well, I love this part. Because one of the best things you can do to regulate leptin is to eat 3 meals per day. You know, how people used to eat before we were as fat as we are as a culture? Three meals per day allow the leptin levels of your body to normalize and leads to a more easily acquired feeling of fullness. You will amaze yourself with how easily you can become full at 6 o'clock at night.

Suddenly you'll realize how the normal-weight people do it. Again, a key factor in allowing leptin to do its job is to begin to eat three normal (and only 3!) meals per day. Before you know it you too could feel full after just a normal size dinner.

However, for us fat people there are other things that can foul us up besides leptin.

Below are a few of the things crucial factors:

  • Natural Human Growth Hormone Regulation
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Food Cravings from a Cellular Level
  • Adequate Sleeping in Relation to Diet
  • Testosterone/Estrogen Levels and their crucial roles
  • Inflammation

I'll be covering these in my upcoming articles.

Until then experiment with 3 squares per day, and realize you body is more complicated then calories vs. exercise.
