Stop Making Excuses For Being Fat
How many times have we tried to find excuses for being overweight? In most cases we like to give the fault to our parents and grandparents. "My granny was also fat and my mum as well, it is just in our genes being chubby". Does not that sound familiar? But did you ever really tried to think deeper about your own problem?
Media are full of news on how this and other scientist discovered a gene sequence that is responsible for causing excessive fat accumulation in body. For some this sounds as the final confirmation of their own assumption - it must be in our blood. We can agree that accepting ones weight as a fact, as something which has nothing to do with us but more with our destiny, is the easiest way to stop thinking on healthy life style. There it is and it seems you can not do anything against it.
Nobody wants to disagree with propeller head scientists on discovering genes that are influencing our biology, and yes, our fat accumulation as well. If we want to move ahead with our life, to improve the quality of our living, we have to take full responsibility for our future. You have to take responsibility to do something against that fatty tissue and fight those cellulite spots on your body.
That fat did not come there because your granny had blue eyes! They came there because you were eating too much of wrong food and doing no exercise at all.
Some (especially women) will protest loudly against upper statement. They will swear they can not lose weight because they eat exactly the same food, doing exactly the same sports as their friends, but still being 10 pounds heavier. It must be stated that every human being is born with genes that determine a specific body type, including how many fat cells one has. And yes there are individuals who tend to gain weight faster than others when exposed to exactly the same influences. But the final explanation is: we could be more receptive for gaining fat faster than our friends, but we were not born fat. And having tendency to gain weight more than others does not hammer our destiny. Daily caloric intake is greater than calories we burn in a day. That is why become fat. But than again scientists or fat people are not satisfied with that explanation. At the end of the day we realize that majority of fat people do not eat same quantities of food and do not exercise as much as their peers who seem to keep their body weight constant over the years. Overweight people just eat too much and exercise too little. But why? Scientists therefore presume that increased body weight could be a result of chemical instability.
Leptin is another topic that can not be ignored. Leptin is a special hormone, released by our body after we eat. Leptin is a kind of messenger which sends orders to our brain to shut down the "hunger" alarm when we are full. Scientists have experimented around and added leptin in meals of overweight people hoping they would eat less. But it did not work. When we start to eat less our sensitivity for leptin decreases, which means we get hungry again.
Scientists did not stop at first hurdle. Some time ago news about special substance called C75 hit the media. C75 proved itself effective on mice, suppressing their appetite. C75 affects hypothalamus in a way it blocks hormones that are responsible for appetite regulation. The result is significantly minimized appetite. The name of the game is to "make it work" on people.
Regardless the efforts of numerous experts to "heal" what seem to be a genetic dysfunction, it is statistically impossible that 50% of overweight American people would be a product of pathologic disease. The most viable explanation is that obesity is not genetically inherited medical condition but it is a social problem and a highly contagious one.
