The Power Of Going Green!
It has become common knowledge that in today's world, more people die of eating too much, than of having too little food! The only difference is that when you die of starvation (having too little to eat), people view that as a painful death and associate it with suffering. They make a big fuss of it, especially with pictures of undernourished children somewhere in Africa. Yes, children are usually the first to suffer when there are not enough good to go around. This makes dying of starvation such a big topic... something most people are aware of and scorn at!
However, people who die of having too much to eat are usually from developed countries. They are usually reasonably wealthy and lead a "healthy" lifetyle of good food and "proper" nourishment. Death usually comes beyond 50 in the form of a heart attack or cancer, the two biggest "killer" in today's affluent society. Nobody makes a big fuss of it because many think it is just a part of growing old. Children seldom if ever, die of over eating!
How wrong can this be? In Biblical times, people lived till way past a hundred. Moses lived till 120 and Abraham lived till 175. He had his second son, Isaac when he was past 100 years old. So why are there so few adults living past 90 these days?
The food, that's why!
Today, we eat too much meat and process food. "But... but meat is good for us and we're suppose to eat meat for protein so that we can grow to be strong!", you argue! I hear all these too often and I used to believe in this statement too. However, today, I believe that, "When in Doubt, go back to Nature!".
Let's look to nature to see some facts!
Some of the strongest animals in the jungle grew up eating no meat. Buffaloes, rhinocerous, elephants, horses, gorillas are all giants of the animal kingdoms. They are just as big and strong, if not stronger than the lions, tigers and leopards of the kingdom, though not as ferocious, for sure! So there must be enough proteins in plants and fruits to sustain the "small" human frames!
Secondly, take a look at your teeth structure. Do they resemble the tiger's meat eating teeth or the Orang Utan's "vegetarian's" teeth? Take a look at some pictures of these animal teeth and make a comparison for yourself.
You'd probably immediately recognise that our human teeth do indeed resemble the Orang Utan's teeth quite closely. And what do Orang Utan's eat in the jungle? According to my search in the internet, a major part of their diet are fruits, leaves and twigs. Is there a good reason for us to eat a similar diet? You bet... because our teeth structure were designed to grind vegetables, grass, fruits and stems rather than tear meat. In fact, the teeth structure of a few other "vegetarians" of the animal kingdoms such as the chimpanzee and horses, are similar to ours!
Humans, like Orang Utans and Chimpanzee's as well as all the other "vegetarians" of the animal kingdoms also have very long intestinal structures. Leaves, twigs, stems are high in fibre and very difficult to digest. As such, long intestinal structures are required to digest these foods and extract maximum nutrients from them. On the other hand, meat eaters have much shorter intestinal structures. Go figure!
