The Invisible Muscle That s So Important
Although your internal obliques are hard to grow huge even if you train them everyday, you have to keep them strong to maintain ideal postural alignment of your body. If you happen to be one of the few whose sides grow larger from obliques exercises, you should control or limit your obliques training.
Everyone actually has an invisible muscle, the transverse abdominals (TVA) which resides underneath all your other abdominals muscles. It is invisible because it cannot be felt by touching nor can it be seen by our naked eyes. You are using TVA when you suck in your stomach or flex it when you are coughing or sneezing. You should take it like a girdle because it functions like a compressor for your abdomen, keeping everything in the correct place. Rather than helping you to bend, it serves as a brace for your lower back.
Training your TVA is simple. From the start of any ab workouts, exhale slowly and use your abs to gently draw in the sides of your torso as you bring your lower ribs towards your hips. Then, bring your navel as close as possible to your spine. Isolating TVA for ab workouts take some practice and concentration.
Your back muscles are much more important than you think when it comes to building ripped abs. It counterbalances your movement when you abs flex and you lean forward. No ab workouts are complete without training your back; strong abs always equals a strong back, and vice versa. If you ignore your back muscles while strengthening your abs, you will gradually have bad body posture.
That's why ab workouts like squats, bench press and dead lifts are great exercises because it trains your abs and back muscles at the same time.
Strong pelvic floor muscles are crucial to a muscular back. When you contract the pelvis floor muscles at the same time as you contract your transverse abdominals, other less used back muscles will be stimulated as well. These muscles are entirely responsible for bracing your spine during ab workouts.
