Finding Your Perfect Hair Extensions

If you are having trouble growing your hair or if your hair has become thin and generally causing you distress then have you thought about the option of having hair extensions applied? Hair extensions are a great way of putting length, volume and layers back into your hair; they can be used for a variety of reasons such as length and volume but also they are a great way of adding colour to your hair if you don't want to damage your natural hair.

Whatever reason you have for gaining the help of hair extensions there are many different types of hair available for the hair extensions and there are also many different ways of having these hair extensions applied.

The quality of your hair extensions will determine whether or not they will look real and how long they are likely to last. Another deciding factor about how long your hair extensions will last is how well you look after them. You should look after your hair extensions in the same way that you take care of your natural hair. One example of this is that you should wash and condition your extensions every two or three days. This is important as your extensions don't get natural oils from your scalp so they need to be kept moisturized. If you don't condition your extensions they will become brittle and break easily, which will lead to very bad split ends. This is why you should treat your extensions with respect as well as ensuring that you brush out all knots before washing, swimming or sleeping.

So when it comes to actually having your hair extensions applied, which method will you use to have them applied? There are many ways of going about having hair extensions but for the sake of this article I am going to inform you of the Individual Strand Method and Wefts. The Individual Strand Method involves your stylist taking small amounts of the extensions, on average about 20 to 50 strands, and applying them to your natural hair. The way in which these extensions are applied to your natural hair is by either heat fusing, glue, clamping or through using waxes and polymers. If you have your extensions applied by the Individual Strand Method they will last an average of a few months before you will have to have them taken out and re-done. There is one problem with this, which is taking the extensions out without damaging your natural hair.

Many people who apply the Individual Strand Method swear that it causes no damage to your natural; however if you glue or clamp something into your hair you should expect that when they are removed you may have a slight bit of damage.

The other method of application that we are looking at is having your hair extensions applied through having a weft applied. A weft looks like a little curtain of hair attached together at the top and is free flowing at the bottom. These wefts can either be made by machine or handmade there is a benefit of having your wefts handmade as they can match your own hair colour perfectly as the colour can be blended in the making process. Handmade wefts also tend to last longer than machine made ones.

Whichever method of application that you use to have your hair extensions applied you should always have them applied by a specialist at a salon. For more information about the different types of extensions that are available get into with your stylist today.
