Moon Phases for Hair May 2008

Do you cut your hair with the moon phases? Many people do. Then there are folks who call it an old wives' tale that can't possibly be true in our modern world of science. In this ongoing series, you will find the dates for May at the end of this article.

The decision to use the moon cycle for hair care is a personal one based on firm beliefs in metaphysical practice, advice from a friend, or simple curiosity from reading about it. Does it work? That is the question that you have to answer for yourself from personal experience. This controversial topic involves a number of factors that are both traditional and subjective. For instance:your mood during a certain moon sign; traditional moon lore about hair; current astrological thinking; the mood of the person performing the treatment; general health and heredity; emotional expectations; professional demands; judging results.

These subjective issues combine in an infinite number of ways to determine whether your results are a success. The one guarantee is that this process can only be measured over a period of time. I found favorable results within one month, although some hair issues may take as long as a year to achieve the desired result. Those who find a positive experience with hair care and the moon phases are thrilled with the system. They find what works and stick to it.

A number of readers have asked about dates for future months. To assist those who need to plan farther in advance, here is a list of the moon phases and signs for each style of hair care. Simply choose the goal for your hair treatments and look up the days on an astrology calendar for future months.

The avoid hair care dates are based on Johanna Paungger and Thomas Poppe in their book called Moon Time in which they declare specifically to avoid all hair treatments during the Pisces and Cancer moons. This information appears to be controversial against a few other sources. The debate continues and I am still listing these dates each month. Avoid hair cut is based on the void of course times when important appointments should normally be delayed. My experience in this area spans more than twenty years as being a worthwhile criteria to observe. Void of course times are easily obtained from an astrology calendar.

Color hair is generally agreed to be best accomplished during Virgo and Aquarius moons. Color roots for slow re-growth is recommended during the waning moon. When possible, combine the two: a Virgo or Aquarius moon that occurs after the Full Moon. For the full effect of the waning moon, I choose the days from three days following the Full Moon to three days before the next New Moon.

Cut hair to avoid breakage and splitting is chosen for the First Quarter moon. For cut hair to grow faster, there are several levels, listed from best to least (choose the best one for your schedule): New Moon in Taurus (May 5), Scorpio (Oct 28), or Capricorn (Dec 27); the New Moon; all New Moon week; the remaining waxing moon phase. Cut hair to grow thicker favors the Full Moon in Scorpio (May 19), Taurus (Nov 12), Capricorn (July 18), Leo, or any Leo moon.

To cut hair to grow sloweR, we move to the waning moon, best in Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius. Cut hair to keep the style the longest is advised by more than one astrologer to be best done when the moon is in Virgo. Cut hair to keep vital energy is my personal favorite based on the third day after the New Moon or the third day before the Full Moon. For a permanent wave, the Aquarius moon is recommended first, and also the Virgo moon. When you actually want a permanent wave you want to be frizzy, go for the Leo moon.

When a particular moon phase date is on an inconvenient day, like a Sunday, when it is challenging to get an appointment, there are several options to consider. First, keep to the general recommended phase for your styling choice, either waxing or waning, New Moon or Full Moon. Second, choose the keep vital energy date if your schedule permits. Also consider your birth moon phase or sign date as an optimum day for all priority appointments. Third, tend to routine maintenance for this cycle and delay a major treatment for the next cycle when the day is more favorable. Always check for the void of course and be sure to convert the listed times to your time zone.
