Cancer Survivors - Vegetarianism Is The 1 Nutritional Strategy To Full Natural Recovery

It is a recognized fact by both allopathic and naturopathic doctors that toxicity is associated with cancer.

This fact makes detoxification an important step in one's recovery from cancer.

The # 1 nutritional strategy to ensure a continuous low toxicity in one's body is vegetarianism. We all know nutrition plays a big role in our health, but how can we make the changes in our diet that will be most beneficial to our bodies? Some changes are easier to make than others, such as drinking less coffee and eating less red meat. But eventually, we all end up talking about people that have reached "advanced" nutritional states -- the vegetarian and the vegan.

Vegetarianism is one of many lifestyle choices that can help improve our health. Although vegetarianism does not spell excellent nutrition (for instance, one can be a vegetarian, but still eat lots of donuts and drink a lot of coffee), it is an important step towards better nutrition. A change to a vegetarian diet automatically reduces the intake of both protein and saturated fats. While saturated fats are best done without, proteins are important to the normal functioning of the body. Thus, one must compensate for the loss of protein coming from a vegetarian diet switch. If done properly, a vegetarian diet can provide more than an adequate supply of protein through combinations of foods, such as:

grains and legumes (i.e. rice and lentils, wheat and peas, bean burritos)

seeds or nuts and legumes (i.e. garbanzo and sesame -- humus, tofu and sesame)

grains and milk or eggs -- although not recommended if combined with other foods (i.e. quiche, rice and eggs, French toast, lasagne)

vegetables and milk or eggs (i.e. cream soups, vegetables with eggs or cheese sauce, salad with sliced eggs, omelette, eggplant Parmesan)

It is also important to have all the essential amino acids (which are the building blocks of proteins) at one meal, so our bodies can make new proteins.

Although being a vegetarian means giving up eating all kinds of meat (which, as we all know, will be hard to accomplish), the benefits of vegetarianism are numerous. Vegetarians have decreased incidence of hypertension, obesity, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, heart disease, osteoporosis and cancer. In other words, decreased incidence of the major life-ending conditions in our society is more present in vegetarians.

Despite the tremendous benefits, only a very small percentage of our population is vegetarian. This may be attributed in part to a fear of a change that will affect us on a daily basis. Everyone has different needs and special medical conditions. Consequently, individualized advice, especially when concerning nutrition, is best.

Nutrition is one of the most important tools used by naturopathic doctors to improve the health of their patients. Together with homeopathy, Chinese remedies and acupuncture, botanical medicines and lifestyle counselling, nutrition is effectively used as part of an overall treatment plan. Furthermore, individualized advice from naturopathic doctors can pinpoint the areas of concern and some of the hurdles that stand in the way of a healthy, vegetarian diet.

One has to consider that the downfall of the vegetarian diet is the difficulty of getting all protein requirements, dependent on your health state, activity levels and BMR ( basal metabolic rate), your protein requirements can easily be calculated ( using the B.I.A ) and maintained through the vegetarian diet.

Give a try and watch your improvement towards full natural cancer recovery.
