Seeking Out an Effective Scalp Acne Treatment

Scalp acne appears in different severities; it is usually noticed at the hairline and is predominate in people with excessively oily hair. The overly productive oil glands mix with dirt and result in clogged pores. It shows in the form of small white or yellow pustules.

Scalp folliculitis is the mildest form of acne of the scalp. It is more common than most people realize and can be caused by stress. The pustules that are formed are very itchy and it is difficult to leave alone, this often results in making the condition worsen.

The most common form of scalp acne treatment for this mild form of acne is to keep the area clean. Use a shampoo for oily hair; sometimes dandruff shampoos are effective also. The area should be treated with a product that contains salicylic acid. One important thing to note, do not use a product that contains benzoyl peroxide, it tends to bleach the hair and you may have a look you do not like.

Acne necrotica is a more severe condition of scalp acne. The larger papules become inflamed and form a black crust and leave permanent pit type scars. If this condition arises you will need to seek the advice of a dermatologist for the proper treatment.

As with all types of acne, the best form of treatment is prevention. Although prevention is not always possible, making sure you wash your hair daily with a mild shampoo will probably help alleviate any scalp acne problems that may arise.
