Money Saving Tips - Saving Money on Food
Many people do not realize how much they spend on food unnecessarily. Not only does this extraneous spending hurt your finances, it can be bad for your health too. There are many things you can do to save money on food costs.
Here are some tips:
- Take time to eat breakfast in the morning. Wake up 15 minutes earlier each day so you have time to prepare yourself a quick breakfast. It will help prevent you from being tempted to get something on the way to work when you get hungry. This will also prevent you from snacking on high calorie foods before lunch, which can help you lose weight.
- Don't stop for coffee. Fill a thermos with coffee from home instead. Coffee purchased at convenience stores, coffee shops, and restaurants cost a lot more than coffee made at home.
- Brown Bag your lunch for work. Eating out everyday adds up. If you calculate it, you may be shocked at how much you have spent eating out for lunch everyday. Make a little bit of extra food when you prepare dinner, and then pack some up to take to work the next day. It can be a lot more exciting than eating a sandwich everyday.
- Buy in bulk instead of buying individual sized portion bags. Divide large bags of chips and pretzels into small zipper storage bags. It will help you save money.
- Keep sealed snacks and drinks, like granola bars and bottled water, in the car. The cost of stopping to get a soda or a snack really adds up. If you get hungry while running errands or going on a trip, you can just grab a granola bar so you aren't tempted to stop at a fast food restaurant or a convenience store, where food and drinks are often overpriced.
