Things Grant Writers Know About Grants
Throughout the internet there are plenty of advertisements for those touting expertise in getting government grants. Then they sub-divide that into very specific demographics like grants for women or grants for minorities. The unfortunate truth about grants is that no specialized expertise should be needed to get them, other than writing the proposal. That is why there are grant writers, but notice grant writers do not advertise on the internet saying "that free money is available out there for anyone who wants it." What do grant writers know that you do not?
Grant Writers Know That Grant Competition Is Fierce
It is rare that a Request For Proposal (RFP) is met with just one proposal that wins by default. It is even rarer that a grant is offered and no one is takes it. The grant game is very competitive and takes a lot of effort just to apply. Then the RFP review takes a long time before a decision is made, only to find that one's proposal was not chosen.
Grant Writers Know That Grants Are Specific
Grantees (even the federal government) do not offer grants for just any purpose. The money being allocated has will have very specific perimeters to be met, and if a person or organization do not follow these rules they can get in serious trouble. Especially if federal dollars were used. So, the likelihood that an entity is offering money to get caught up on bills, or start just any desired business is very unlikely. What is more likely is that an entity that would to help a populace with utilities or starting businesses will grant money to an established and reputable entity. Then this entity will provide these services under a sustainable operational model.
One can save heartache and money by ignoring these offers of easy, free grant dollars. Anytime a grant is given, much is expected in return. No one gives money for nothing.
