Tips to Starting a Window Washing Business
If you have made the decision to start your own window washing business, there are several tips you can follow that will make the process go more smoothly. Let's face it; most new business owners are up against more stress than they should be required to handle. Don't let the same thing happen to you!
Probably the most important tip is this; research, research, RESEARCH. What kind of competition are you up against? Are there are other window washing companies in your area will you be the first to offer this type of service?
Contact several small businesses, in your area. Ask them if they have ever considered using the type of service you offer and what it would take to get their business and their maintenance service budget. (This is a great way to get a feel of the fees you should be charging.)
Make it legal. Obtain a business name (DBA) and open a small business checking account. You will find that the majority of your customers will be more comfortable writing a check, as payment, when they are writing it out to a business.
Decide whether you will be using commercial window cleaning products or if you will be using a solution of your own. If you opt to use a product that you have mixed up yourself, use it to clean your own windows to make sure you end up with successful results.
Tell your friends and family that you will be starting a window washing business. Don't be afraid to ask everyone you know if they have a need for this type of service. If the answer is no, ask for referrals. You can even go so far as to offer them a small commission or a free cleaning, for every client that they are instrumental in helping you locate.
Put up fliers that include some type of discount offer, which customers can use toward their first cleaning. Many convenience stores and other small Mom and Pop businesses will allow you to put up advertisements, at no charge.
A window washing business is a good choice for first time entrepreneurs. The start-up investment is low and the profit potential is quite high. Who could ask for more?
