Making Sales A Piece Of Cake

Almost any business has some kind of product or service they're trying to sell. A dentist tries to sell his skill at dentistry; a florist tries to sell her beautiful and healthy flowers; a financial consultant sells her knowledge of finances. What do these different people have in common? They're all trying to sell something. And it's quite possible that at some point in their business, they've struggled to sell as much as they wanted to sell. The purpose of this article is to help you avoid such struggles by making sales a piece of cake.

The first thing that is essential to making sales a piece of cake is to know who you're marketing to. You must correctly target your buyers. When doing any kind of sales, you'll get much better results if the people or companies you're selling to are actually interested in your product. Doing a small amount of research before trying to sell your product can greatly improve your success rate. For example, if you're selling luxury vacation packages and you're consistently targeting young families, you probably won't have much success. But if you call retirees without small children at home or high income families, you'll probably have a much higher rate of success. It's important to know the proper demographic groups in order to correctly target your buyers and achieve sales.

The second thing to do is be sure that your product is something that is useful and desired on today's market. For example, VCRs were great during their time, but technology has moved very far past them. If you're still trying to sell some kind of VHS device, you're not likely to get many takers. In order to be sure that your product is something that people will buy, it would be beneficial to do some market research (surveys or pilot studies).

Third, you need to have a sales team put together that is sure to succeed (no matter how small the team may be). If you don't have a sales team yet, here are a few qualities to look for in your potential sales reps.

Adaptability a good sales candidate should be able to deal with any type of personality or situation
Articulate" a well-spoken sales rep can often make or break a deal. They should use proper grammar, have a good vocabulary and speak clearly
Energy and enthusiasm: your sales rep should be obviously interested and excited in their work.
Confidence: your sales rep should be able to give the impression that s/he knows all about the product or service being sold
Self-reliance and self-motivation: a sales rep who can solve problems on their own is a sales rep who can be counted on to get the job done
Patience and perseverance: a sales rep who has these qualities will be kind to customers, have the drive to keep working on long term projects, and be a great asset to your sales team

If you can find sales reps who have some (or preferably all) of these qualities, you will have a much better chance at success in your business.

Finally, you should be constantly training your sales team. Don't be afraid to schedule weekly or monthly sales meetings where you and your sales team come together to discuss how you can improve your group and individual sales.

If you haven't noticed by this point, let me explain something to you: the key to making sales a piece of cake is proper preparation. The one thing held in common by all of the above points is that they all involve preparing your sales team. If you are able to employ these methods, you will greatly improve your sales, making it a piece of cake.
