How To Sell Eco-Friendly Products
Eco-friendly can mean a variety of things. The product may be considered eco-friendly because it is organic, because it is natural or lacks chemicals, or because it is paperless. A variety of products are available to consumers that could literally replace a good portion of hazardous waste. However, selling these items to the public is not always easy. One reason may be the cost of these products. Many times, organic or natural products cost a bit more than non-organic. Then again, sometimes the benefit outweighs the initial cost. For instance, some natural cleaning products are concentrated and although you may have to buy them in bulk or at a higher cost, they last a lot longer then conventional cleaners.
So, how do you sell eco-friendly products to consumers? Well, first of all, know that you will not be able to sell to everyone. Not everyone is ready to take the plunge. Not everyone has the money on hand to purchase something right away even if it would save them money long term. If you sell eco-friendly products, it's probably a good idea to start with people who are already buying and using them or companies that are already eco-friendly. Take some time to sit down and write a list of networking websites or forums that are eco-friendly. Join those sites and make some friends. Write down a list of eco-friendly companies listed in the phone book and send them a nice sales letter and maybe some samples. Think of anyone you know who cleans homes for a living or owns a daycare business. Perhaps they would like to switch to something safer.
If you sell organic baby clothes or something of that nature, join some forums for new moms and dads. Check out Squidoo and make a lens there with your products. Post some of your items on eBay. Get a presentation together and make it known that you're available for small group speeches. One last idea on getting the word out about your eco-friendly products is to put first time customer order coupons in your mail or cards that you send out.
When people know that you are now in the business of selling eco-friendly products, they'll know who to go to when they are ready to purchase. Educate yourself the best you can so that you can answer any questions they may have when they come to you to place an order. Make sure to put your website address on every print item you hand out. All of these tips should help you get the sales you're looking for and get your eco-friendly products in the hands of the consumer. Once they get used to using eco-friendly products, they will, hopefully, be your lifetime customers.
