The Early Innkeeper Catches The Publicity ... Tips For Obtaining Media Coverage For Your Inn

1. Have a press/ media page on your inn's website.

It is important to have a media page on your website that gives reporters, editors and producers a place to go to for appropriate information about your inn. Prospective guests might also be impressed with the info that you provide on this page and influence their decision to stay or not. Guidelines below provide the type of info that belongs on this page. You can also provide some of the info and ask them to email or call you for more.

Most importantly, the more accessible you are to the media who are always in a hurry and on deadline, the better chances you will have to get interviewed and obtain free publicity for your inn. Bloggers will also be interested in featuring your inn if you make your inn known to them.

2. Every page of your website including the media page should list your contact info, where you can be reached immediately and directly... (cell phone, home phone, office phone and e-mail) at the top of each page ... along with a high res photo of the innkeeper, your inn photos, such as rooms, main lodge, and the surrounding area.

3. Photos should be clearly marked with the names of rooms, amenities and features...

underneath your photo, you could have a link to your bio and the true heartwarming and inspiring story about the inn... you could also have a photo of your cat or dog or horse or turtles or parrot, if pertinent and appropriate

4. If you have been featured online, on blogs or in any newspapers, magazines, newsletters or other publications, provide a link to the pages. If you have been on radio or TV and have those links, provide them, too... If you have written any articles or columns, provide those as well, the more media, the better credibility you will have with reporters and editors, who want to interview experts such as yourself.

5. Include a few press releases with links as well as articles such as How to Tips, along with special promotions.

6. If there are major celebrities or big corporations, entrepreneurs, known companies who visit your venue, you could have a list of Who's Who have stayed at your inn.

7. Feature a few testimonials from guests and celebrity quotes, put them up first, if you have them.

8. A short audio or video clip of you talking before a group or being interviewed is also good so producers can hear you and/or see you in action.

Bonus: When you can stand out from the crowd and competition, by going green, having a unique theme, or catering to a special group of visitors, this is something noteworthy and newsworthy to flaunt throughout your website and media page.
