The Memory Garden
This was written by a mother to her firstborn child. Mom never sent the letter.
The Memory Garden
"Everybody needs a place
A private secret space
To hide and sort of - tuck away
Treasures you find each special day
Things you save may only be - special to yourself
Others need not know why they go in your hiding shelf
They are things that touch you, mold you, meld you
Help you learn that specialness about you
You will find them in the oddest places
Tucked in the lines of people faces
Photos saved from times that made
Your heart know you could not let that memory fade
Special phrases from the lines that you have read
In poems or books, special things that are said
Clippings, programs, lyrics galore
And as time goes on, your self and space have grown more and more
Soon you will need a bigger space
To keep all your treasures in their safe place
Whatever you do guard it with fervor
This special memory garden, you must always preserve
As years go by and your life travels far
As you are living, learning and have reached for your star
You can look into your garden of memories and know
What and who helped you, made you, and encouraged you to grow
As I wrote these words - that were meant for you
A day never ended - when that was not true
As the tides of the ocean can change everything
These words were kept hidden- as tides often do
While looking back through the lines of my life
Somehow the years - how they came - how they went
I found this in my Memory Garden
Of writings, poems and letters Never Sent."
