Candidates, Does The Rain Have a Father?

There they go again, speaking godlike pronouncements to us,

making promises they have no power to keep: meaningless rhetoric.

I envision You, Lord, speaking to them as You did to him:

Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?

Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!

Who stretched a measuring line across it?

On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone while the

morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?

Where were you when I said to the sea, "This far you may come and

no farther; here is where your proud waves halt"?

Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this. What is the way to the place of light? And where does darkness reside?

Surely you know, for you were already born! You have lived so many years!

Listen to yourselves! Do you hear how foolish you sound?

Tell every one the way to the place where lightning is dispersed,

or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth!

Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew?

From whose womb comes the ice, or who gives birth to the frost

from the heavens when the waters become hard as stone,

when the surface of the deep is frozen? Surely you know the answers!

Oh, Lord, how I wish I could hear you talking to the candidates as You

talked to Job - on camera for all the world to see! I envision their faces

as You take them to task for their haughty attitudes and insincerity.

You made me a dreamer, Lord - one who ponders and envisions, and

I love who You created. So if my dreams seem bizarre to others, I do not care.

I know nothing is impossible with you, Lord!

Not even Your confrontation with the candidates!
