Learn From Every Experience
With every band rehearsal, every recording session, every performance, every audition, you should be able to learn something from it. I suggest after every session or performance you should make a list of at least five things that were good. These things might include how you pulled off that really tricky chord change or solo, or how the bass player and the drummer really locked together, or even how you got a great crowd response. Then make a list of five things that either were not good or things that could be improved. These things can include anything from how you missed the chord changes in a song, or how the drummer kept slowing down or even the fact that the bass player forgot to put a new battery in his compressor pedal.
Building a New Box Ideas For Thinking Outside the Box
One of the toughest things to do as a musician and guitar player is to change your practice or writing habits so that you continue stretching and growing. Many people stay stuck in their boxes, writing songs using the same drab chords, same strumming patterns and the list goes on. I see it all of the time. Even the pro artists that come to me as clients get stuck in their same old patterns. In order to continuously progress, sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone and explore ideas that we may know, but may not use simply because we're not used to using them. Here are some ideas you can apply right away to your practicing.
What Are Guitar Tabs and How to Read Them?
Guitar tablatures or tabs are a great way of transcribing a song and I believe that you will be able to read them perfectly with this tutorial. Tablatures are actually a way of expressing music on paper. They allow you to put a song on the paper, note by note, so that everyone can read them and make a song happen they way it was meant to sound in the first place. Unlike guitar chords which only give you the basic melody of the song, tablatures make it possible for you to play the song absolutely correctly, note by note. They even show you how to make the transitions between various notes (hammer ons, pull offs, slides, bends, .
A New Zeal Behind Nylon Strings
Acclaimed Latin Jazz, and Funk Guitarist Dave Percell has just emerged to the Jazz scene with a newly released solo album, "Eternal Traveler". This new, yet exceptionally talented guitarist has delivered a new CD with nothing less than a brilliant display of what a #1 hit CD should contain. It's very rare that one can listen to a CD and actually enjoy all of the tracks, but I guarantee that not one song on this CD is a filler. Every song on Dave's new album, "Eternal Traveler" was pieced together with soul and passion. The jazz industry has long awaited a musician such as Dave Percell. He's different, he's fresh, and he's brought a new zeal behind the nylon strings.
The Fine Art of Practicing Guitar
In this article we are going to talk about THE MOST IMPORTANT thing that you can do to improve your guitar playing. PRACTICING! How you practice and your mindset on doing it altogether is, in my opinion, the most crucial thing to focus on when you want to excel at guitar playing or anything else for that matter. Now I've worked with many students over the years and I have come to find that certain people have different needs when it comes to what and how they should practice. The biggest thing that you need to keep in mind here is that PRACTICING IS PLAYING! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I can't emphasize this enough.
Learning Acoustic Guitar - 5 Tips on How to Amplify an Acoustic Guitar
Most people learning acoustic guitar probably have at least some interest or aspiration of performing in live settings. One issue that arises is volume. Acoustic instruments are only so loud. In larger venues, this simply is not practical. Venues with excellent acoustics, multiple instrumentalists playing the same parts, and quiet, attentive audiences work for orchestras, but it is quite impractical for acoustic guitarists. Instead, electrical amplification is the predominant solution. This does not mean playing an electric guitar, per se, but instead focusing on equipment that more faithfully projects the actual tone of an acoustic guitar.
