King of the Quickies - Roger Corman

Today sees the UK release of Death Race, a high octane thriller starring Jason Statham with an approximate budget of $18 million. This may seem a little paltry compared to some blockbusters of late, but it's a veritable fortune when you consider that the 1975 film on which it's based, Death Race 2000, was made for a mere $300, 000. Anyone who has seen any of the publicity for the remake may well be aware of the man that links both versions - producer Roger Corman. Corman is legendary for producing literally hundreds of low budget exploitation films, and for fostering the talents of future luminaries such as Martin Scorcese, Dennis Hopper and Joe Dante.

Renovations Shows Do Not Tell the Whole Story

The world is a dangerous place and one of the most dangerous places is the television room. You see, television made my house collapse. I was watching one of those renovations shows on television: Someone buys this little bungalow for a song then spends some money and some elbow grease renovating it. Then he or she sells the place for a huge amount of money. It looked so easy: Within an hour, the house is purchased, gutted and back on the market with nary a splinter or banged thumb. How hard can flipping houses? Well, I'm no dummy. I know there is a lot you don't see on those shows. You don't see how long a project actually takes in terms of work hours.

History of Bollywood

The Indian film industry has a huge fan base not only at home but also abroad, especially in countries which have a significant Indian population. The term Bollywood is a term coined for the Hindi-language film industry set in Bombay, India. Bollywood is often incorrectly referred to the whole of Indian Cinema. It is in fact just a part of the film industry. The introduction of Cinema in India began with the Lumiere Brothers' screening six silent short films at the Watson Hotel in Bombay. In 1910, Dadasaheb Phalke attended a screening of The Life of Christ at P.B. Mehta's American - Indian Cinema and decided to become a filmmaker himself.

The Other Boleyn Girl Movie Review

BOTTOM LINE: It plays rather like an episode of The Bold of the Beautiful, despite its top-notch cast who aren't given much to do but overact and some fabulous cinematography and production design. THE GOOD: An historical movie, if done well, is an interesting journey to go on. The movie starts well with some fabulous cinematography, production and costume design. It looks glorious right off the bat. The image of the three kids playing in the field before their lives are disrupted by tricky political manoeuvering and slight of hand is a haunting image and gives you a taste of the danger these kids will face in the future.

Now known and publicized as Page 3 events termed as those Bollywood gatherings that are captured and mostly put up on the page 3 of newspapers.

Crash, Boom, Bang! The Most Distinctive Sounds in Movie History

Almost everyone you meet around the world, whether they be intellectuals, couch potatoes, fashion models or family men, have a certain fascination for movies. We laugh and cry because of them, they inspire us to do great feats of our own, and they quite simply take us to other worlds, more intense and fascinating than our own realities may be. And a big part of that leap in movie quality is because of advances in audio technology. Even the most realistically plotted black and white films seemed removed from reality because of their initial lack of sound. But with the arrival of advanced audio techniques to the scene, movies would never be the same again.

Scream Some More! Our Most Beloved And Hated Cartoon Villains!

We loved watching cartoons when we were kids. Some love watching it even now that they have families of their own. We all loved the feeling when the heroes of our favorite shows always emerged victorious in the end. Saving cities, flying and performing the coolest stunts were always our greatest dreams when we were kids. But what really made those shows worth watching were definitely the villains. Without them there would not be a point to having a superhero anyway. Their wiles, power, dastardly tricks and signature moves always gave us the best reasons to catch that next episode. And we always loved it secretly when they made their on-screen appearances.

Guns, Goons and Gold - The Most Popular Gangster Movies of All Time

In spite of the over-masculinity, gratuitous violence, and sexuality (or maybe precisely because of it), the best gangster movies ever made stick to our subconscious like bloodstains on a carpet. They not only give us insights into a world of money, loyalty, familial hierarchies and greed that is so far removed from out daily lives, but it also gives us on a more basic level: tons of excitement, dramatic plots and characters that are very easy to relate to, except they are thrust into situations much larger than we are used to. And here are just a few of the greatest gangster flicks ever created.

When it Goes Too Far on Film - Hollywood s Worst Book Adaptation Blunders

It is usually a good thing when popular and great books are adapted for release as movies. That usually means that more recognition for the book will follow and that many more people would appreciate the great works of literature from which these movies are based on. And those book lover are guaranteed to be one of the first to get front row seats to those movies, in anticipation of how the movie would turn out. Some movies do well against the barrage of literary critics and book lovers. But there are a lot more misses than hits and be it because of the dialog, the setting, the characters, or the ending, many book lovers are left wanting when viewing their favorite adaptations.

Matt Damon in the Bourne Ultimatum - Movie Review

BOTTOM LINE: Kick-arse thriller that delivers all the stops; a deeply satisfying conclusion to an outstanding trilogy. THE GOOD: This is the perfect conclusion to the Bourne series. The film is just as gripping as the previous two, throwing you right in to the thick of the action from the beginning and never letting up pace. The intrigue surrounding Jason Bourne's past finally comes full circle in this film and there isn't a second that goes past where you are left hanging on the edge of your seat waiting for the outcome. Matt Damon is excellent as Bourne, showing a maturity and a brutalness required for such a demanding role.
