Indiana Jones Lives to See Another Day

I sat in Indiana Jones. My bit of popcorn was less stale and had more zest. I was seven when Indy first hit the big screen. My mom told us it was another "Han Solo" movie. My brother and I were pretty reluctant to see anything that didn't take place on Alderon back then.

"Throw me the idol, I'll throw you the whip." When the following minute of karma landed Indy across the ravine with his whip and the idol, nobody in the audience shouted, "Lame!" Hollywood had magic in its plot twists and turns. We wanted Indy to make it.

Somehow now we now he is going to get across in order to make the next "Indy" movie. Hollywood had fresh ideas back then. Every second movie wasn't some lame sequel cashing in on licensing of tested characters.

Heroes and Villains could die from time to time. Obi-Wan and Vader had to for the saga to continue. In today's movie, when you see four characters in harms way, you look for the person who just entered stage left. Like Joel or Mike, you say to yourself, "Gee, I wonder who's going to eat it?"
I still get my Hot Tamales and my Milk Duds and pay whatever price the theater charges, however, Hollywood's mines have been tapped. I have more fun seeing the independents and low-budget films. It harks back to a day when Hollywood didn't only dare give money to people who prove they could make a sequel pencil out.
