Competition Over HDTV Technology Heats Up

The introduction of HDTV has driven the competition of TV service companies to the next level. With the improvement of technology, the demand or standard of TV entertainment is constantly developing at a very fast pace. In order to get more subscribers to their company, TV service provider will have to provide everything from HDTV, DVR and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound to various programming packages to meet the need of TV consumers. However, with the current flow of industry, the company which is able to provide the most channels in HDTV will stand out among the competition.

To provide quality and quantity of HDTV to consumers, TV service provider companies must have the required bandwidth capabilities so that they can provide enough channels in HDTV. This is something that a cable TV company cannot provide. Because of this limitation, they will face the risk of losing out in the HDTV competition. To solve this problem, cable TV has turn to Switched Digital Video system which enables them to solve the bandwidth limitation problem. With this technology, cable TV will be able to transmit the selected channels to the customer. Therefore, they are able to free more bandwidth and provide more channels to that customer. This also means that cable TV could provide more HDTV channels to their subscribers. This upgrade of service is a successful step for cable TV to provide even more high tech services like 3D HDTV and Ultra HDTV in the near future.

Although cable TV is improving their capability to offer HDTV to their customers, this factor will not affect the strong position satellite TV is in. even with the introduction of Switch Digital Video technology, cable TV must continue to improve their service to compete with satellite TV system. For satellite TV, it is only the matter of competition. Whenever they feel the need for more bandwidth, all they need to do is just launch more satellite to the sky.

For a conclusion, the fight to be the better TV service provider will all depend on the technology used by the companies involved. Although cable TV is constantly claiming that satellite TV is opposing them by saying that they can provide more channels than cable TV, this battle will definitely go on as the TV entertainment industry keep on improving. Whichever company that stays on the front line technology, they will be ahead of the competition.
