10,000 BC - Movie Review
10,000 BC was supposed to be the latest epic movie event of the year but in reality it is a weak story that plays out more like a bad video game than an epic movie masterpiece. This computer graphic spectical has its good moments sure to delight the fans of special effects but leaves the rest of us wanting a better and more realistic story with far more interesting characters that we could relate to.
Our hero D'Leh (Steven Strait) protects his people from an various assortment of dangerous foes including a stampede of wooly mammoths, cruel horse riding raiders, and a giant saber tooth tiger. All the while trying to rally the troops and rescue his lost love who was kidnaped by cruel slavers and taken to a half built pyramid.
The movie takes you from one scene to the next without building much momentum, excitement, or story for the viewer to get into. It comes down to an overblown climatic finish among the half built pyramids where the slavers are holding our heros lost love.
Some of the landscape shots taken in New Zealand, Namibia and South Africa are breath taking and the graphics are truly impressive but its not enough to cover the lack of story and the poor character development. More time should have been spent developing interesting characters and less time on the amount of makeup flowing down the girls face.
In closing 10,000 BC should have stayed history. If your looking for a big action packed movie with lots of fighting and special effects than you would probably enjoy this film. If your looking for a gripping story that will draw you into well thought out characters then you will have to look somewhere else.
